Guitar World magazine has responded with their Top 100 Guitarists Poll of their own. In response to the outrage of many due to the Rolling Stone magazine issue which left off many names Guitar World conducted a poll of readers and internet browsers to vote for the Top 100 Guitarists of All Time. Going down the list quickly I count about 15 of those on this list as no longer with us. What do you get, All?

Yeah, I like Keith a lot. He was a big Kath fan, though he's (relatively) just a kid. His solo on 25 or 6 to 4 starts off with a homage to Kath, then he takes it in his own direction.

He's got two albums, one with Tris Imboden and a bunch of guys (including Pankow and Loughnane), one with Chris Pinnick and, mm, someone. I think I'll get the former; I think they're both instrumental. Pinnick was the second Kath replacement; lightning-fast and very clean style.

Current bass/lead singer is Jason Scheff, very nice guy, talented bass player. Just wish they'd get off the ballads and do some ROCK.

I found the album you mentioned here. Is that it? Is it the new guys (Champlin, Howland, etc.), or does it go back to Kath days, or both?

Yes, I think he was on Jacko's "Beat It" video... but some of his best work was on the "Top Gun" OST.

I'd like to throw a few more names in the hat nobody's mentioned.Michael Shenker of UFO,brother Rudolph of the Scorpions,Tommy Bolin,before he got all screwed up on smack,Randy Bachman of Guess who,BTO fame,Mick Box and Ken Hensley of Uriah Heep and Gary Rossington of course.

In my view, most of the list is a joke.....there are, with a few exceptions, NO great players in heavy metal bands....almost all of them know three to four chords...it is silly...it shows that people under the age of thirty are doing the "voting". 90 per cent of the list couldn't repeat one Jimi Hendrix riff....Mark Knoffner, Chet Atkins, Leo Kottke....and DOZENS more are light years ahead of most on the list.....

There are guys player in small clubs from coast to coast better than most of the three chord wonders on this list.

Even in this genre, no Joe Walsh (James Gang)? If Fripp is on here, why not Jon Anderson (Yes)? Nice to see Leslie West. I saw Mountain "live" one time, and was amazed. I missed seeing Hendrix when he played in Milwaukee in the early 70's -- could kick myself in the behind for that.

Back in my Hollywood Rocker/ sunset strip days I used to see him sit in with a whole slew of aspiring ( or in some cases, washed up) hard rock bands. He was always great.

Jon Anderson was the singer. Steve Howe, the primary guitarist for Yes, does indeed deserve to be on that list. Fripp is one of my all time favorites. I consider him the intellectual father of the hardcore/alternative movement.( Larks Tongues in Aspic: that's Primus 25 years earlier.) But he is no more deserving than Howe, given they are indeed of the genre : 70s progressive.

...I just noticed: no Jeff Skunk Baxter!!!

Don Felder of The Eagles should be near the top of the list. He is a genius and very underrated.
