This is the model.

At a certain point, because spending is not cut, taxes are raised.

Unfortunately it'll probably become a national trend around 2006-07

My husband is one of those State of MI employees who have to work 40 hours and get paid for 38, thanks to the Canadian Trash in the governor's mansion.

You have our trash in the Governors Mansion. :-}..... how did he/she sneak in.

Granholm is trying to take the sneaky way out. Her strategy is to nail everyone on "fees" rather than call it a tax increase. That way she can claim to be the "tough" governor without raising taxes, and get away with it.

Any money going to government coffers are taxes, no matter how they dress it up.

Just damn! How does any government justify not paying for 2 hours worked and forcing private business to a minimum wage? How is this acceptable but Walmart was pounded by the press for their "off the clock" working issue? Just damn!

It's Jennifer "Canadian Trash" Granholm's little shell game.

State employees that are non-union (aka NERES) must either put 2 hours worth of pay in their deferred comp retirement fund or take unpaid leave that equals the same amount of time. One problem -- other than getting a smaller paycheck -- is that over 8,000 people retired last year and the positions haven't been filled. My husband's affirmative-action headcase supervisor has booked his schedule so tight he doesn't have TIME to take time off!

More governmental stupidity in action.

My expectation is that those state employees are going to be present for 40 hours, but won't work a minute more than the 38 hours for which they will be paid. They will find a way to "slow down" to compensate for the mistreatment.
