LOL!

Thanks, Sam, for telling Pits's story, even if the MOH was late in coming. I don't think I've ever heard a Medal Of Honor winner's story that didn't squeeze the air out of my lungs and the tears out of my eyes.

Yeah, even the dry, official, government citation style gets to you.

You pointed out, "I just did my job like millions before me."

That is what I was trying to say to Snippy, I don't need thanks, or gratitude (though it warms my heart) just comradeship with good people and the hope that we can make a difference, one person at a time, and continue the fight onward to Victory. I won't see it in my day, I guess, and might even die in bed, which is the last thing I ever expected!!!

SAM, you and your dad remind me of the tough, gallant, proud Polish aristocratic tradition. I'll do one on the Polish decryption of Enigma, (found a new source in Gorlicky) and how this saved maybe a million American asses if you will do a good one on the battle of Warsaw. Those lads deserve to have their song sung as much as anyone's, it was as gallant as Thermopylae, though without such a good ending. Stalin to blame, as he so often was.

One of my special jobs back in Viet Nam was to help clean out a refrigeration space that had lost power for a month. An hatch team had moved almost all of the frozen boxed meat out earlier, thawed and not fit for human consumption. There was still maybe a thousand pounds of meat in the reefer hold, and after we got the boat running again it was time to clean out the reefer hold. Well, I tell you guys, I have some real, close up aquaintance with maggots. We pulled out more than twenty big GI cans of maggots out of that hold. The ones on the ceiling kept falling on our heads.

It is insulting, in my experience, to compare LBJ and McNamara to maggots. Maggots would never have done the evil LBJ and NcNamara did. Compared to LBJ and McNamara maggots are the soul of innocence. Hungrey little buggers, though!!!!

Thanks Iris7.

The Foxhole has covered the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 and the Invasion of Poland in 1939. I can look around and see what's available on the Battle of Warsaw in 1939.

If you want to cover Enigma it'd be an interesting read, especially if it doesn't give all the credit to the Brits. ;-)

My general rule about our good men going to the Viet Nam war has unfortunate exceptions, Kerry of Massachusetts, for instance.

Worth printing again!

This thread is from the archives but definitely worth a BTTT! The American Vietnam warriors deserve our remembering and honoring.
