If you know of a good movie based on this I'd love your recommendation.

"Patton" has pretty good scenes about the Sicily campaign. "The Man Who Never Was" (1956) is a fun retelling of the intelligence operation to plant the body in Spain with false information about a Sardinia campaign. I enjoy "To Hell And Back" which is the Audie Murphy story, starring himself. It tells the story of the 3rd Infantry Division, Murphy's outfit, which was in the thick of the fighting in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. I may have talked myself into a Blockbuster evening.

"To Hell and Back", thanks colorado tanker, I've heard of that one more than once on here so it sounds like a good place to start.
