Army M. Sgt. Gail M. Kerns kneels on the pavement at Andrews AFB near Washington an dkisses the ground as he first set foot back on U.S. soil. Kerns was a prisoner of the Viet Cong for four years. Kerns, who appeared partially disabled, was one of 19 former prisoners flown to Andrews. March 11, 1973
