Charlie Upton, a New Zealander, also got two awards of the VC. One in Greece or Crete and the other in North Africa where he was captured. Read the book "Mark of the Lion". He was a close friend of my father inlaw who himself got two Military Cross's plus I think five awards of the Military Medal. My father inlaw was with the LRDG and NZ 2nd Division in Africa and Italy.

Also the doctor at Rooke's Drift got the VC there and another during WWI.

And here I just watched the uncut and much better Zulu last night! A great movie and only one tier down from the very best war movie of all time, Seven Samurai! Truthfuly, thank you for your correction. I truly hate not to give a man his due. Rommel said the best troops he faced in North Africa were the New Zealanders.

Please retell the stories you heard from your relatives or heard on your New Zealand trip. It would be fine if I could honor their memories, and I am sure other Foxhole people will feel the same way.

Two awards of the Miltary Cross and five of the Military Medal. Had to have been wounded repeatedly. Please accept my salute to your distinguished relative in his absence.
