Hi ya Jinxy,

Port Clinton is a little chilly today. We had some strong storms roll through the entire state last night and it cooled down a bit.

Sam, good pictures. We seem to go from highs to lows and back again these days. God Bless our troops and their families.

The Astoria Column was erected in 1926 at an elevation of 600 feet atop Coxcomb Hill, the location of the first permanent American Settlement west of the Rockies. It has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places since 1974, and was refurbished in 1995. This impressive Oregon Coast historical monument is the only one of its kind in the world!

The column displays 14 scenes commemorating important events in the history of Astoria in cronological order. The mural scrolls around the 125-foot-high structure in an upward spiral direction, with the earliest scene at the base of the column. An interior 164-step spiral staircase leads to the top of a viewing platform with spectacular views.

Here's some pictures of the Astoria Column and a view from the top.

I don't think I would want to fight a man with the middle name of "Hazard"

Captain Perry on 10 September 1813, at the battle of Put-in-Bay (or battle of Lake Erie) being pulled across to receive the surrender of a British brig. Note the 11 stripes and ? stars.

*Odd look*
Yes.. that is one way of putting it.
Going up against someone with a middle name of "Hazard" isn't one of the brightest things to do...
Then again, going toe to toe with a 6' tall woman with the moniker of "Razor" or "Sparky" probably isn't a good thing either.
*cough*

My dear sweet innocent and history deprived sister is beating me over the head and asking me why there hasn't been anything on "Mad" Anthony Wayne yet...
Help!

Nope, no mind reading going on here. (Put that down!)
My sister is a somewhat displaced semi-buckeye. (She had the misfortune of being born in New Jersey instead of our native Ohio..)
Hence her interest in the history of our native state and battles therein.
(Fallen Timbers.)
So I've been getting bugged about it.
Besides calling Toledo "Frogtown" (The Black Swamp extended from Sylvania, Ohio into Michigan.. hence Toledo being called Frogtown for being built in said swamp..)

A wise woman in my family once said "Chocolate makes everything better."
Not sure if it's possible to overload on the stuff.
Gonna have to con the missus into eating alot of chocolate to see her reaction. (She has ADHD... might be harmful to my health in that case!)
YOINK!
Image saved..
