Remembering it all .. yeah. I guess one of the things that comes to mind are those wonderful press meetings that Schwartzkopf used to give .. where he would pin the ears back on those silly reporters asking dumb questions. I loved it when he used his loud *general* voice on them. This was a man who was used to setting people straight and just that booming voice and their knees would shake.

My dad, (calling him step is dumb as he raised me from the age of 10) has gone on to Heaven 18 years ago.
Dad was one of the 2 men who raised the flag on Corregidor during the battle. He jumped with the flag. He's T/5 Frank Arrigo. Fate of the Flag

I'm doing fine, Sam. How about you?

Wouldn't be by a guy named Col. Flannegan (sp?) would it? There is one I got from the Library by him that mentions my dad and the flag raising. In fact the OLDER 60ish Collier's Encyclopedia mention the flag raising.

This is the only war that I personally remember without reading books, LOL. I remember watching General Schwarzkopf on TV and telling the press that what he just heard was bovine scatology, I never forgot that term. LOL! He was my hero. He still is.

No escape from Iraq now....unless they got ...MULTI-PASS !

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Thanks so much for the link to that story. If you can find it there's a book called "Airborne at War" by Hapier Crookenden. There's an excellent chapter on the Corregidor battle with a lot of pictures.

Hey now, all you Warthog-huggers (not that there's anything wrong with that)... don't forget about the Vipers' role in the Gulf War! My former unit's F-16s were the first to take the LANTIRN (Low Level Navigation and Targeting InfraRed for Night) system into combat. One of our squadrons flew exclusively at night. With LANTIRN, our pilots could see through the smoke-filled skies of Kuwait and were not hampered by desert sand storms.
Here's a site that has some 'war stories' by pilots from my former unit.

...not all ground personnel were Army/Marines. You are so right! Shame on me for neglecting to mention our Air Force warriors -- like you -- who were intimately involved in the ground war. Thank you Gunrunner2 for serving in the Air Force and for your direct role in Desert Storm.
