As a Gen-X guy who enlisted when Ronaldus Magnus was president I tip my hat to you guys.
A lot of you were drafted, some of you enlisted to get better billets.
You are all my brothers in arms.
vietnamvetradio.org/
Vietnam Vet Radio is an internet only radio station dedicated to the men and women who served in the Vietnam War, their families, and friends. We are incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit veterans ministry organization. With a few exceptions all the songs played are from the Vietnam War era. We also play the authentic jingles and public service announcements that were played on AFVN (American Forces Vietnam Network) Radio.
A Vietnam favorite: The Animals - We Gotta Get Out Of This Place
Thank You Red
Seemed like most every USO type show would end with that song.
No one minded that the Asian chicks doing the show mangled the words.
INSIDE the pipe? Some guys had all the luck...lol.
Photo props to Lt. Khalifah A Co 5/12th 199th LIB
Gen X grunt here. Thank you to all the gruntpas out there.
When they call us “boomers”, I wonder if they ever stop to think that maybe we specialize in loud booms... and what that could mean for them if they go too far?
I was too young to remember the Cuban Missile Crisis and JFK’s assassination, I never saw The Beatles or even bought one of their records until 1975...I and my friends never went to protest demonstrations and we didn’t go around saying “Right on, brother” or “Power to the people”, “Hey baby, what’s your sign?” or “Pigs off campus”....None of us went to Vietnam to fight in the war or for any other reason...Too young for Woodstock and all that “goin to California” crap, but I guess I’m Baby Boomer anyway. Oh well!
Woodstock? I had a front row seat in Da Nang. Couldn’t see all that much.
THANKS FOR THIS...NEVER KNEW IT EXISTED...101ST ABN...65-66
JUST A GRUNT.
Looks like Ypres Salient 1917.
I remember all that stuff and still never smoked a joint, went to a protest or participated in free sex. I grew up in a middle class family, worked my way through college, married the only woman I’d ever been intimate with and worked hard my whole life. All my family members and most of my friends lived exactly same life. The media’s version of ‘Boomers’ like everything else is a Hollywood meme with little basis in reality.
I was a bit older. I turned 21 in DaNang.
I remember AFVN playing “Good Morning, Starshine” by Oliver every morning.
I was 20 and then 21 while I was in country and then turned 22 while I was still in the hospital.
Our nation had turned into idiots while we were gone.
Thanks. I work at a military air museum as a volunteer. It’s the least I can do.
