Flying Tigers Airline filled a role which is now filled by Air Force (I think) transport.
Whatever the men were doing, it may not have ended in the ocean as stated.
In any event, it appears to have ended poorly. Best to let the story given be the story accepted.

Back in 1970 when I flew off to Vietnam, I took a Flying Tiger 707 out of Travis north to Alaska and then south to Vietnam with at least one other stop.
Took a Pan-Am 707 coming back home a year later. Both ways the stewardesses were phenomenally helpful and friendly to the troops. (Memories, sigh)
