Historical Footage: Japanese Surrender Signing Aboard Battleship Missouri Sunday Sept. 2, 1945..
This is an actual film made of the surrender ceremony of the Japanese to General Douglas Mac Arthur in Tokyo Bay in September 1945. Actual voice of the General.
This is a side note but I had a friend that worked for Toyota back in the day who said they were always after him to wear the Toyota Hat when he would go into the plant but he refused until they told him to wear the hat or they would fine him $25/ insident. He said the next day he came into to the plant he was wearing a hat, it said USS Missouri and thats when he started working for us.
The United Nations was not even “born” yet, but they used the language in the film.
After January 1, 1942, the Allies officially referred to themselves as the "United Nations". It is from that name that the present United Nations Organization drew it's name in in April of 1945.
It was an honor to stand on the USS Missouri at the very spot of that signing while on a visit to Washington state.
