Lord,
Keep our Troops forever in Your care
Give them victory over the enemy...
Grant them a safe and swift return...
Bless those who mourn the lost. .
FReepers from the Foxhole join in prayer for all those serving their country at this time.

U.S. Military History, Current Events and Veterans Issues
Where Duty, Honor and Country are acknowledged, affirmed and commemorated.
|
Our Mission: The FReeper Foxhole is dedicated to Veterans of our Nation's military forces and to others who are affected in their relationships with Veterans. In the FReeper Foxhole, Veterans or their family members should feel free to address their specific circumstances or whatever issues concern them in an atmosphere of peace, understanding, brotherhood and support. The FReeper Foxhole hopes to share with it's readers an open forum where we can learn about and discuss military history, military news and other topics of concern or interest to our readers be they Veteran's, Current Duty or anyone interested in what we have to offer. If the Foxhole makes someone appreciate, even a little, what others have sacrificed for us, then it has accomplished one of it's missions. We hope the Foxhole in some small way helps us to remember and honor those who came before us.

Georgia on our mind
So here we are, in the Deep South, Ochlocknee, Georgia...almost.
We aren't in any city, but Ochlocknee is our post office. It's a short pleasant 10 mile country drive to the grocery and the town of Thomasville.
We like it out here in the country and this time we plan to stay put for a while, Lord willing and the creek don't rise or the saints... and all that.
Direct TV isn't bad at all, although admittedly we rarely watch tv.
Dial-up internet is painfully slow.
The dogs are good. We have a decent amount of yard fenced off for them with a temporary farm fence. Miss Scarlett loves to chase the bugs out here and on the land behind us lives a young female "Sarge look-alike" named Miss Tilley.
Sarge just sits and pines away for her. I'm pretty sure she thinks he's a handsome fella.
Sarge, flirting with Miss Tilley
We have poisonous toads here and we have to watch the dogs carefully at dawn and dusk. They think it's fun to play with the toads.
Miss feather, we have lots of dragonflies, they like to tease the dogs. It's like they know the dogs can't catch them.
We have all kinds of birds, Sam saw a pileated woodpecker a couple days ago, I'm jealous!. We have blue jays and cardinals, warblers and finches and a few different woodpeckers. Roosters crow in the early morning and the woods yield lots of strange sounds at night.
The sky is quite beautiful out here, you can see more than you can in the cities and suburbs. It's like camping out only with a house instead of a tent.
Oh yeah, somewhere between Oregon, North Carolina and Georgia, we got married to each other...in Florida. :-)
We can open burn out here. (note to samwise: with permits!)
The past two Saturdays we spent the entire day watching our burn pile burn. Sam has done such a fine job of clearing the land that we have plenty more to burn when the days are good for it. It's a great way to relax.
Gnats, they are horrible at certain times of the day. The road system is good and the people in the nearby towns are what we find here typically, nice southern polite folks.
We're mostly settled in and hopefully a time will come when we will be able to fence the entire acre in and the dogs can have free roam of the place, that'll be nice.
We wish we could be online more but there is a lot to do and I'm away about 11 hours a day during the week commuting to Tallahassee and Sam is always busy with the chores. And did I mention, dial-up is awful?
All in all, we're blessed and truly enjoying ourselves, the house, the dogs and the area. Now that the humidity of summer is over the weather is quite pleasant.
I'd love to share more pictures with you but in case you missed it, dial-up is awful to work with and we can only be on-line one computer at a time.

We think our Foxhole family is the best and miss doing daily threads and we really enjoy it when alfa6 gets some time and puts one up. We would bet there are some more folks out there who could do one now and again. I hope they find their way here.
Good morning everyone. It's a great day for being lazy.
Sam, I think we should go burn something!
Enjoy your Sunday.

I am working on getting my pilot's license, I will fly down and see you. I am in Washington, GA and have an aunt in Thomasville.
Uncle Sam put me on 100% disability with the VA and I am drawing 100% of my military retirement based on the Combat Related Special Compensation. Life is good.

OK, now this one is going to be hard to index...
Wait. that tractor looks a little like one of the German vehicles in WWII. Perhaps I should index this thread under 'Armor'.
Best wishes for the newlyweds.

Good Sunday Morning to all.
It's been a real busy last six months but things look like they're finally starting to "settle down" and major changes don't seem to be happening at least twice a day, maybe Snippy and I can get back to our normal "organized confusion" lives again. :-)
At least I found out that clearing an acre of overgrown woodland is great way to lose about 15 lbs.(so is packing/loading and unpacking/unloading moving vans every few months)
Well, it's way past my bedtime, so time to hit the sack
P.S. I HATE DIAL_UP!!!!!

Helloooooooooo you two!
Nice to hear y'all are getting settled in at your new digs. PRETTY PLACE y'all have.
And I see congrats are in order for the newlyweds!! How cool! WOOHOO!! I wish you many, many, many happy years together.
I hope you can find an alternative to that dial-up. It really does stink, doesn't it? I remember it all too well from our days stuck with WebTV. LOL!
Great to "see" y'all again!

Long time no hear!
Sounds great Im out in the sticks too.
Give RFD TV a try some good shows on it. And then theres Mail Call.
I had the same problem with dial up and no DSL out were I'm at. I got WildBlue satellite Internet. Give it a try.
As I have said before Buck had it right;)
I Wouldn't Live In New York City (If They Gave Me The Whole Dang Town)"
It ain't nothin' but a concrete jungle with people packed like sardines
Where everybody's tryin' to live beyond their means
Where all the natives hurry and scurry too and fro
And like a fleas on a puppy dog they got no place to go.
I wouldn't live in New York City if they gave me the whole dang town
Talk about a bummer it's the biggest one around
Sodom and Gommorah was tame to what I found
I wouldn't live in New York City if they gave me the whole dang town.
Well, I ain't seen the sunshine since the day that I arrived
'Cause brother I've been busy a-tryin' to survive
Nobody knows you've been here till you're six feet under ground
Than you become a statistic if they remember to write you down.
I wouldn't live in New York City if they gave me the whole dang town
Talk about a bummer it's the biggest one around
Sodom and Gommorah was tame to what I found
I wouldn't live in New York City if they gave me the whole dang town...
