U.S. Military History, Current Events and Veterans Issues
Where Duty, Honor and Country are acknowledged, affirmed and commemorated.
|
Our Mission: The FReeper Foxhole is dedicated to Veterans of our Nation's military forces and to others who are affected in their relationships with Veterans. In the FReeper Foxhole, Veterans or their family members should feel free to address their specific circumstances or whatever issues concern them in an atmosphere of peace, understanding, brotherhood and support. The FReeper Foxhole hopes to share with it's readers an open forum where we can learn about and discuss military history, military news and other topics of concern or interest to our readers be they Veteran's, Current Duty or anyone interested in what we have to offer. If the Foxhole makes someone appreciate, even a little, what others have sacrificed for us, then it has accomplished one of it's missions. We hope the Foxhole in some small way helps us to remember and honor those who came before us.

Georgia on our mind

So here we are, in the Deep South, Ochlocknee, Georgia...almost.
We aren't in any city, but Ochlocknee is our post office. It's a short pleasant 10 mile country drive to the grocery and the town of Thomasville.
We like it out here in the country and this time we plan to stay put for a while, Lord willing and the creek don't rise or the saints... and all that.
Direct TV isn't bad at all, although admittedly we rarely watch tv.
Dial-up internet is painfully slow.
The dogs are good. We have a decent amount of yard fenced off for them with a temporary farm fence. Miss Scarlett loves to chase the bugs out here and on the land behind us lives a young female "Sarge look-alike" named Miss Tilley.
Sarge just sits and pines away for her. I'm pretty sure she thinks he's a handsome fella.
 Sarge, flirting with Miss Tilley
We have poisonous toads here and we have to watch the dogs carefully at dawn and dusk. They think it's fun to play with the toads.
Miss feather, we have lots of dragonflies, they like to tease the dogs. It's like they know the dogs can't catch them.
We have all kinds of birds, Sam saw a pileated woodpecker a couple days ago, I'm jealous!. We have blue jays and cardinals, warblers and finches and a few different woodpeckers. Roosters crow in the early morning and the woods yield lots of strange sounds at night.
The sky is quite beautiful out here, you can see more than you can in the cities and suburbs. It's like camping out only with a house instead of a tent.
Oh yeah, somewhere between Oregon, North Carolina and Georgia, we got married to each other...in Florida. :-)
We can open burn out here. (note to samwise: with permits!)
The past two Saturdays we spent the entire day watching our burn pile burn. Sam has done such a fine job of clearing the land that we have plenty more to burn when the days are good for it. It's a great way to relax.
Gnats, they are horrible at certain times of the day. The road system is good and the people in the nearby towns are what we find here typically, nice southern polite folks.
We're mostly settled in and hopefully a time will come when we will be able to fence the entire acre in and the dogs can have free roam of the place, that'll be nice.
We wish we could be online more but there is a lot to do and I'm away about 11 hours a day during the week commuting to Tallahassee and Sam is always busy with the chores. And did I mention, dial-up is awful?
All in all, we're blessed and truly enjoying ourselves, the house, the dogs and the area. Now that the humidity of summer is over the weather is quite pleasant.
I'd love to share more pictures with you but in case you missed it, dial-up is awful to work with and we can only be on-line one computer at a time.

Three Certainties
READ:
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory? 1 Corinthians 15:55
As I waited outside the Intensive Care Unit for changes in the condition of a loved one, I was reminded that death affects all of us: old and young, male and female, rich and poor.
In 1 Thessalonians 4, the apostle Paul comforted those who mourned the death of their loved ones. He told them that excessive grief resulted from being uninformed. Weeping for our loss is good, but we need not weep like those who have no hope. Instead, we must rely on three certainties of death.
The first certainty is that the soul does not die. The souls of departed believers are with the Lord (v.14). They have retired from this problematic world, and they sleep in Jesus.
Second, Jesus will come for every believer. Whether a Christian is alive on earth or asleep in death, Jesus will return for all His children (vv.16-17).
Third, there will be a joyous reunion. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord (v.17).
Knowing these certainties brings comfort to believers when their friends and loved ones depart. Although we are separated from them for a while, we will meet again in the presence of our Lord. Albert Lee
When facing deaths shadow, remember the Light;
The shadows bring fear, and the dark shrouds our eyes;
But if we will turn to face Jesus the Light,
The shadows will fade as He brightens our skies. Lee

It's raining here. I forgot how much fun it is to hydroplane. I brought the rain back with me from Alabama last Friday.
Ya'll 'R welcome. LOL
Howdy. Waiting for my next job. Might be next week, might be right after Thanksgiving. Interesting.

Yer back in TX eh. I missed the early voting, so went today. God grief! I waited 45 minutes. Msdrby went after I did and waited an hour.
Too bad the only choices are: Liberal, Socialist, Communist, or "What the heck for?"
Althought it wasn't marked as such, I voted straight ticket for the "Lesser Of All Evils" party.

howdy! I barely got to vote tonight it was so crowded. Seriously, though, the website had the location wrong, and the lady behind me said she had to go to three different places before arriving at the correct voting facility. I sure am lucky to have husband who did the research for me so I wouldn't have that particular headache! I imagine there were quite a few who were turned away after traipsing all over the city to find just where in the world precinct 6 was supposed to vote.

I bought another vintage mic. This one has no guts in it. I'll put modern stuff in if I choose to use it.

Congrats on the big event! Real happy for y'all.
Enjoy your new home in Jaw-juh - it's really a great place. Everyone needs a little downhome and it sounds like you're adjusting just fine to rural living.
Here's a tip: Tractor Supply!

Had I realized that being a "boomer" was a volunteer position during basic, I probably would have done it.

Hi ya'll. Yep, back home again.
Amazing the voter turnout even here in this little bitty town. I'm not trying to make light of ya'll's crowd by saying this, it is just a reflection of the heavy turnout. I've never had more than 2 people ahead of me in line to vote here. I have also been a poll watcher in several elections here and never seen lines except at hours before work, during lunch hour or after people got off work. Yesterday, I went at 3:30 in the afternoon to avoid the rush times. There were 6 people seated and voting and 7 people in line ahead of me. After I finished with my ballot, there were over a dozen people in line and still several seated and voting. It was just weird.
I was hoping that was an indication that Americans were showing up to support the nation and our principles. Today, I am sad, concerned and disgusted as everyone else. I stayed up till 2AM watching returns and was just sick. I know, preaching to the choir here.
One thought that hits me real deep in the gut is how so many people show this kind of disrespect to our fighting men and women. This is equivalent to the spitting in the face from years past. I'm just revolted by it. Just sick.
On a lighter note, I'm on my way to the range to take out some frustration. Work on my personal home security skills. After yesterday, it seems like something more needful than ever. ~sigh~

huh! The current President of Texas A&M takes Rummy's place!

The current President of Texas A&M takes Rummy's place!God Bless him. He's in my prayers already.
Heard the news on BAP this morning. And once again I was happy with the smoothness of the handling of the situation by our president. Immediate announcement of the replacement as a daily part of business. Mr. Gates is gonna be in our prayers a lot for the next coupla years I think.
