Lord,
Keep our Troops forever in Your care
Give them victory over the enemy...
Grant them a safe and swift return...
Bless those who mourn the lost. .
FReepers from the Foxhole join in prayer for all those serving their country at this time.

U.S. Military History, Current Events and Veterans Issues
Where Duty, Honor and Country are acknowledged, affirmed and commemorated.
|
Our Mission: The FReeper Foxhole is dedicated to Veterans of our Nation's military forces and to others who are affected in their relationships with Veterans. In the FReeper Foxhole, Veterans or their family members should feel free to address their specific circumstances or whatever issues concern them in an atmosphere of peace, understanding, brotherhood and support. The FReeper Foxhole hopes to share with it's readers an open forum where we can learn about and discuss military history, military news and other topics of concern or interest to our readers be they Veteran's, Current Duty or anyone interested in what we have to offer. If the Foxhole makes someone appreciate, even a little, what others have sacrificed for us, then it has accomplished one of it's missions. We hope the Foxhole in some small way helps us to remember and honor those who came before us.

Georgia on our mind

So here we are, in the Deep South, Ochlocknee, Georgia...almost.
We aren't in any city, but Ochlocknee is our post office. It's a short pleasant 10 mile country drive to the grocery and the town of Thomasville.
We like it out here in the country and this time we plan to stay put for a while, Lord willing and the creek don't rise or the saints... and all that.
Direct TV isn't bad at all, although admittedly we rarely watch tv.
Dial-up internet is painfully slow.
The dogs are good. We have a decent amount of yard fenced off for them with a temporary farm fence. Miss Scarlett loves to chase the bugs out here and on the land behind us lives a young female "Sarge look-alike" named Miss Tilley.
Sarge just sits and pines away for her. I'm pretty sure she thinks he's a handsome fella.
 Sarge, flirting with Miss Tilley
We have poisonous toads here and we have to watch the dogs carefully at dawn and dusk. They think it's fun to play with the toads.
Miss feather, we have lots of dragonflies, they like to tease the dogs. It's like they know the dogs can't catch them.
We have all kinds of birds, Sam saw a pileated woodpecker a couple days ago, I'm jealous!. We have blue jays and cardinals, warblers and finches and a few different woodpeckers. Roosters crow in the early morning and the woods yield lots of strange sounds at night.
The sky is quite beautiful out here, you can see more than you can in the cities and suburbs. It's like camping out only with a house instead of a tent.
Oh yeah, somewhere between Oregon, North Carolina and Georgia, we got married to each other...in Florida. :-)
We can open burn out here. (note to samwise: with permits!)
The past two Saturdays we spent the entire day watching our burn pile burn. Sam has done such a fine job of clearing the land that we have plenty more to burn when the days are good for it. It's a great way to relax.
Gnats, they are horrible at certain times of the day. The road system is good and the people in the nearby towns are what we find here typically, nice southern polite folks.
We're mostly settled in and hopefully a time will come when we will be able to fence the entire acre in and the dogs can have free roam of the place, that'll be nice.
We wish we could be online more but there is a lot to do and I'm away about 11 hours a day during the week commuting to Tallahassee and Sam is always busy with the chores. And did I mention, dial-up is awful?
All in all, we're blessed and truly enjoying ourselves, the house, the dogs and the area. Now that the humidity of summer is over the weather is quite pleasant.
I'd love to share more pictures with you but in case you missed it, dial-up is awful to work with and we can only be on-line one computer at a time.

A Surprise Answer
READ: 1 John 3:16-23
Whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 1 John 3:22
When Josh McDowells mother died, he was not sure of her salvation. He became depressed. Was she a Christian or not? Lord, he prayed, somehow give me the answer so I can get back to normal. Ive just got to know. It seemed like an impossible request.
Two days later, Josh drove out to the ocean and walked to the end of a pier to be alone. There sat an elderly woman in a lawnchair, fishing. Wheres your home originally? she asked. MichiganUnion City, Josh replied. Nobodys heard of it. I tell people its a suburb of Battle Creek, interrupted the woman. I had a cousin from there. Did you know the McDowell family?
Stunned, Josh responded, Yes, Im Josh McDowell. I cant believe it, said the woman. Im a cousin to your mother. Do you remember anything at all about my mothers spiritual life? asked Josh. Why sureyour mom and I were just girlsteenagerswhen a tent revival came to town. We both went forward to accept Christ. Praise God! shouted Josh, startling the surrounding fishermen.
God delights to give us what we ask when it is in His will. Never underestimate His desire to respond to our prayers. A surprise may be just around the corner. Dennis J. De Haan
That long-sought wish, oh, how I prayed,
I thought it not divinely willed,
And then the joyous, tear-stained smile
Of faith triumphant, hope fulfilled! Brandt

Back from St. Louis Bump for the Freeper Foxhole.
Today's assignment go over to the sister-in-laws and put down about a dozen stepping blocks. Then see if a log splitter is available so I can clean up the back yard firewood pile.

The Choice
READ:
Deuteronomy 30:15-20I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. Deuteronomy 30:15
Youve heard the infamous name of John Wilkes Booth. He assassinated President Abraham Lincoln in 1865. But have you heard about Edwin Booth, Johns eldest brother? Edwin, a well-known actor, was waiting at a Jersey City train station when he saw someone slip and fall off the platform. Edwin quickly grabbed the mans collar and pulled him to safetyrescuing him from serious injury or death. Who was the man he saved? Abraham Lincolns son Robert, a soldier in the Civil War.
How ironic that the man who saved Lincolns son had a brother who would soon kill the president. One saved a life; one took a life. One chose life; the other chose death.
The Lord gave His people a choice between life and death: They could love Him and obey His commands (Deut. 30:16), or they could worship and serve other gods (v.17). He told them, I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life (v.19).
We too have a choice between life and death. We can receive Jesus as our Savior and live with Him forever, or we can reject Jesus and be in darkness forever without Him. The best choice is clear. Receive Gods gift of His Son Jesus. Choose life! Anne Cetas
The choice we make determines our
Eternal destination;
One leads to everlasting life;
The other, condemnation. Sper
