At a regular meeting of the Board of Directors on March 14, 2006, the Board voted to have the Executive Director attend the Heritage Foundation's 29th Annual Resource Bank in Colorado Springs CO, representing VetsCoR.

Jim Robinson, founder and owner of FreeRepublic.com, and a board member, elected to join the Executive Director and represent FreeRepublic.com at the Resource Bank

Jim arrived in Lake Havasu City, AZ on April 16, and the Executive Director took Jim and Sheila on a sightseeing trip to Oatman AZ on Monday, April 17. Pictures from the sightseeing trip are posted at www.new-enterprises.net.

Early Tuesday morning, we loaded up Jim's van and set out for Colorado Springs, driving by way of Albuquerque, NM. We had dinner Tuesday evening with a group of FReepers in Albuquerque and remained overnight. (picture posted at www.new-enterprises.net)

Wednesday morning we departed Albuquerque and arrived at Colorado Springs early evening.

Thursday morning we departed our hotel and went to the hotel (about 2 miles away) where the Heritage Foundation was having the Resource Bank. We got checked in and were told by the organizers to use any empty table to set up our displays for VetsCoR and FreeRepublic.com.

We found an empty table and started to set up, then discovered there was no nearby electrical outlet to plug in the laptop computer.

the first table we set up at

I started looking for a table with a nearby electrical outlet, and while I was doing that a hotel staff member approached and offered assistance. The staff member found a table outside the main hall, and Jim and I quickly moved our banners to the new table.

During the course of the next two days, we met and talked with many people from around the world, and heard some GREAT speakers talking about what they were doing to promote the cause of FREEDOM and LIBERTY.

In the following series of pictures, you'll see some of the MANY promoters of FREEDOM and LIBERTY who had booths. I picked up a pile of literature from the tables about 18" thick, which I have yet to finish going through. I also obtained a list of links with which we can create a curriculum for our members to use when we start sending members to schools and homeschool sessions to discuss the Constitution and the Founding Documents. I'll be posting those on our links page shortly. All in all, it was a great Resource Bank, and our thanks to the Heritage Foundation for putting it on.

On Saturday, we were priviledged to attend a "Support the Troops" rally outside the main gate to Ft. Carson. While our group was not large, it was ENTHUSIASTIC! Our thanks to FReepers "familyop" and "American Quilter" for setting up the rally.

The following series of pictures were taken at the rally.

Despite the high winds (which ultimately destroyed the four signs I had taken with me), we had a GREAT time, and were met with an enthusiastic response from people driving by.

After the rally, we all went to the Retired Enlisted Association Hall for a great dinner.

On Sunday, we loaded up the van and hit the road for Cortez, CO. We arrived in Cortez and got settled into our quarters, then met some FReepers for supper.

On Monday, April 24th, we went to the Cortez Rifle and Pistol Club outdoor range for a shoot. Videos from the shoot are going to be posted at www.new-enterprises.net, and a video of Jim shooting my Armi Jager was previously posted in a thread on FreeRepublic.com. Despite the winds (which pretty much plagued us the whole trip) we had a great time sending rounds downrange and punching holes in paper. Thanks to FReeper "trussell" for setting up the dinner and arranging the shoot. I had 5 long guns and my pistol along with 1000 rounds of assorted ammunition with me. Due to the winds, I didn't get to shoot up all the ammo I took, but we managed to shoot up a bunch of it.

After the shoot, I used trussell's BBQ to grill a large amount of chicken, and we had BBQ that evening.

On Tuesday morning, April 25th, we loaded up the van for the return to LHC. The trip took a little longer than planned because we stopped frequently so I could take pictures of the beautiful country we were driving through. Those pictures are also going to be posted at www.new-enterprises.net.

Jim and Sheila left LHC on Wednesday morning and returned to Fresno.

All in all, the trip was informative and fun. I'll be posting information obtained at the Heritage Foundation Resource Bank to VetsCoR's website over the coming days.

Thanks for the PING! Sounds like you had a great time. Can't wait to see all the pix. An 18-inch stack of resource material? Wow! The trip was worth taking for that alone.

Thanks, familyop! But if you hadn't started things rolling, I wouldn't have joined in. I think we were good co-leaders.

Thanks for the report! It was a great pleasure to meet you both, and to learn about how FreeRepublic was started. I wouldn't have missed it for anything, and I hope to see you both again in the future.
