Sometimes I am told I should be glad I only had to deal with Traypac and MRE's.
Were C-rats as bad as claimed?

I can only speak from a very limited experience with the C-rats and I did not find them all that bad. However I only had to eat them a few time and we were able to heat them up.

Like anything else after about the 20th time, bleech!!!

Not to worry, next Sunday I will try todo the MRE Cookbok

Eggs and Ham were the worst of all C-rats, Dr Suess even wrote a book about them.

You age or wheather or not you were "Olde Corps" is based upon what you remember being in C-Rats.

For instance, as I remember included in every C-rats box/ was a small pack of cigarettes; Lucky Strikes.

Nah. Of course, our memories get better over time, don't they?

You had to put a little more effort into C-Rats to make sure you got an edible meal. Judicious trading, especially with newbies, helped. Any way to heat up the main course really helped. And Tabasco was essential. I never got as fancy as this cookbook, but several of those recipes sound pretty good!
