I don't know what an X-pen is but we did finally get a "crate" to keep him in so we could at least go to dinner or a trip to the store. He's stayed in it for two and a half hours the longest and seemed to do okay.

I think he'd stay in one in the store but start jumping and hollering as soon as a customer came in!
