I had the same reaction, I agree with you on Guarnere, my other favorite character was Dexter Fletcher as SSgt Martin. Wish they would have had more of LT Spiers too, he was only featured in the later episodes.
My favorite line in BoB was from Toye:
"How do you feel about being rescued by Patton?"
"Well I'd feel pretty peachy, except for one thing. We didn't f'ing need to be rescued by Patton, got that?"
