BTW, the Nantahala or "Nanty" is one of the most beautiful rivers in North Carolina, and a favorite of whitewater kayakers . . . Nantahala in Cherokee means "land of the noon day sun" . . . the gorge is so deep that the river gets direct sunlight only at mid day. Since it is dam-fed, it is also VERY cold -- wet suits and a paddle jacket recommended!


This is "Patton's Run" right after the put in. Fast, pushy water that shows up quick!


Nantahala Falls, the biggest water on the regular trip.
