I read a review of the show in the WSJ. Sounded like they are reinforcing all the stereotypes the MSM are fostering about Iraq to add more "Hollywood" and drum up ratings.

The fellow in the first segment keeps talking about "Cape Tokorina" related to Empress Augusta Bay on Bougainville Island. I suspect he means Cape Torokina, on Empress Augusta Bay. Important Naval night battle there about February '43.

Rabaul is about 245 statute miles west by north west from Torokina Point, according to my maps. Can't find a protractor.
Some sources say that the Helldiver was inferior to the earlier SBD, mostly because the fuselage was too short to give the tail section any leverage, it sounds like. Bad design, but not the manufacturer's fault. The machine replaced the SBD even though the users complained that it was inferior.

I stopped watching TV as much as possible decades ago. One's basic grip on reality is destroyed by watching TV in excess. Excess is a small number of minutes per week.
Don't know how to fix this. I suggested shutting down the TV system to a friend, who replied that this would cause a revolution. One could make the TV folks personally liable for lies, distortions and anyone's hurt feelings, corruption of the young, middle aged, and old, etc., and let the lawyers loose on them. Be fun to watch. Ten thousand law suits filed per second.
Do not expect anything but propaganda and lies from those people. Moronic propaganda and lies, made by morons for morons. Bocho is one of the worst.
Thanks for your the description of the story line, because your description (containing no surprises) is as close as I intend to get to that stuff.

Thanks for the pictures. They bring home the very personal way war has affected our families and us.

Thanks for an interesting post. It's interesting to see how flyboys on both sides exaggerated the number of kills. That's been a constant problem since the invention of military aviation, hasn't it? Not that anybody thinks they're not telling the truth, it's just so hard to tell how effective bombing has been in real time.

Now don't get me wrong, I love USN air, check my name, but the early zero was a beauty. We appreciate beauty here at the Foxhole. A couple of my favorites are the ME-109 and the Mosquito, one German, one British and of course I love the Corsair, the P-38, the B-17, LOL. So many of those WWII Warbirds were beauties.
