Brilliant analogy. Without adequate supplies the Finns still ran a brilliant campaign. It's interesting given the history of border disputes and conquest that Finland would allow 20 years of military neglect. Military minds like Mannerheim are often checkmated by politics. IMHO.

The reason the FInns sided with Germany in WWII was in part to regain the land they had to surrender.
