Sgt. Angel A. Tavera (left), a 22-year-old native of Rosenberg, Texas and crew chief with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 365, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing is awarded the Air Medal with the Combat Distinguishing Device by Maj. Gen. Keith J. It surprised me when the Navy started naming ships after living people.

It started out with the best of intentions (hmmm...where have we heard that before). The first ship named after a living person was the DDG Arleigh Burke. ADM Arleigh Burke was the most famous destroyer squadron leader in WWII and later CNO in the late '50s and early '60s. To name a revolutionary class of new destroyers after seemed to be a natural but the fact he was still alive opened a real can of worms.
