Night "serenading" parties using tin pans, tied and dried raw hides and bake-oven lids for "musical instruments" disturbed the soldiers' sleep and stampeded their mules and cattle.I had no idea this practice was so old.

Well, bothering neighboring units during annual training was common practice for us.
It had to start somewhere.
