THE RETIREMENT THE OLD SERGEANT SERIES By Steve Newton (25)

The old sergeant had never felt quite this old. His papers had come down from Division and he was gone. 30 years and retirement had finally caught up with him.

He had already finished packing and he had a flight back to the real world the next day. He would be mustered out officially at Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri.

His men had a huge party planned for that night and as the old sergeant thought about it, he decided he just could not do it. He picked up his bag and shouldered it as he walked across the compound.

A large truck was getting ready to head to Kuwait and he threw himself into the back. As the truck started down the road the sergeant whispered under his breath: “See ya guys. God bless.”

Authors Note:

It has been a great privilege writing the “Old Sergeant” Series and there are 25 of them but all things have a season. (But all the bad guys should watch out. You never know when the old sarge might return)

Be sure to check out, “Patton Speaks” and the new ‘MEDIC SERIES.”

ARRIVAL THE MEDIC SERIES By Steve Newton (1)

The medic had just arrived in country and not only felt lost he was lost. They had trucked him in from Kuwait like a sack of potatoes and dropped him off in what they said was his assigned area but now he had his doubts. It was a busy place and no one seemed to be paying the least attention to him.

He headed off to the most obvious place for the Commanding Officer of the company to report in: The palace. It was ornate on the outside but he noticed that when he entered the building it was shabby and almost vulgar. Sadam had some weird tastes he thought to himself. He spotted a large sign with his platoon number on it and headed that way.

He knocked on the door and a voice yelled, “ENTER.” ‘SIR, corporal reporting for duty.” “Papers,” the Lt asked. As the lieutenant looked at his packet the corporal wondered what he had gotten himself into. This was unlike any military base he had ever seen and even the officers were hard to tell apart from the enlisted.

“Aw, I see. You’re our new medic: 91-B. You need to report to your platoon as quickly as possible. They have been without any medical help for 3 weeks. I’ll get a runner to escort you.” “Uh, sir, what happen to they’re last medics?” The Lt just grinned and said, “Don’t worry about it son. You’re dismissed.”

“Oh, boy,” the corporal thought as he followed his escort to his new platoon. “This platoon looks like they see a lot of action,” he said to the escort. “Yeah, corp they do. They have the highest kill ration in the army. Used to belong to an old sergeant who ran a pretty tight ship.”

“Aw shit,” the corporal thought. Welcome to Iraq.
