They did in fact call the Germans a lot of names and stuff. However had they attacked Germany at that time they would have probably gone straight to Berlin. Germany shot up most of their ammo in Poland. Just think how many lives that would have saved plus it could have cause a coup against Hitler since the German Army Staff wasn't real happy about the war starting.

Another question is why England and France did not declare war on Russia since they invaded Poland from the other side at the same time?

I remember when the movie first came out, I was about 12. I asked my father why they would let a wimpy little guy like that play the part of a hero. I thought it should be John Wayne or somebody more fitting. My father explained things to me.

Oh, that's funny! You gotta watch out for us short guys . . . .

I'm sure it didn't help his PTSD that almost all his roles were in Westerns and war movies, so he was always having to pretend to shoot at people. I bet the reality of his life in Hollywood wasn't very glamorous.

Wasn't the Bell X-1 piloted by Chuck Yeager the first aircraft to fly supersonic?

Yes, that's correct.

Well, minor detail there with the burning ammo and gas.

I have no problem with short people since I can always over look them. Who knows, they might do a remake of the Wizard of Oz, so cheer up.

My experience is that short people who are encased in a tank behind a main gun get tons of respect. :)

This is true, but if the tank gets hit and starts to burn and you don't have a ladder inside, how do you plan to get out of the hatch?

Evening CT. It's a bummer when we get so busy we can't get to the Foxhole. :-(

We've got a lot of catching up to do so that we have threads ready to post. (Although it is nice to have the time off watching America whizz by the windows).

It's great to have a father that can explain things like that, isn't it?

We laid Msdrby's grandad to rest today. It's been a long draining day. The Honor Gaurd did not show up. The funeral director and O.J.'s brother folded the flag from his coffin. I was in tears at that point.

Msdrby and I realized that, besides she and I, most of the men in this group were veterans. That was pretty neat.

Tonight, I saw O.J.'s discharge from active duty. He apparently spent quite some time in the Navy Reserve after that. Upon discharge from active duty, he was a Carpenter's Mate Third Class. He served aboard the USS Belle Isle (AG-73).

Most of the German Army was tied in in Poland. The french could have launched some sort of offensive, the Brits didn't have much on the Continent at that time, but any action by England and france would have been of some help.
