While the Americans had an unlimited supply of infantry (and so were treated like ammunition, which is hard on the guys having to do the dieing. Well said Iris7. I seriously thought of this process when reading about the Hurtgen Forest, our young men kept getting killed and the powers that be kept sending in more men, they have a term for it that escapes me at the moment but you say it best...like ammunition.
