The rocket-powered X-15 research aircraft helped develop the knowledge necessary for space exploration and ultra high speed flight. Based at Edwards AFB, the X-15 set numerous speed and altitude records, many of which stand to this day. Maj. Pete Knight flew the X-15 faster than anyone else.119 posted on
