Do you suppose that the AF could ever be successfully reabsorbed into the Army?

Boy! I don't see that happening.

Maybe the Air Force is gonna relinquish contol of Close Support Aircraft to the Army and the Army will provide it's own Close Support Air Force.

If you take away close air support and the space command, what else is there?

You have a handful of F-117, B-1 and B-2 bombers. I think most of the F-15s and F-16's are in the National Guard these days.

You have the trash-haulers and the tankers.

I'm not sure how many F-22's there are, and what there mission is supposed to be.

I could see the AF being downsized and/or split up.
