Morning w_over_w.

Growing up in Chicago, I learned the Story of Butch O'Hare early.

Thanks Johnny. (I had a hunch today's plane would be the "Wildcat")

Are we good or what?

Morning Sam.

I don't know. I haven't seen her since Monday when I took her to school. :^( They went on a camping trip. I can't believe how quiet and lonesome the house has been. I'm getting ready to go pick her up in a few minutes. :^) I can't wait to hear about her adventures.

How's your dad doing? The lass is still seeing the back doctor Friday. I may have some questions for you then.

Camping! I sure hope she likes it. Group trip?

He's doing ok. At least he's not complaining about his back yet. That's a good sign.

Thanks Johnny, SAM thought you might feature that one today. :)

That's kind of a "pudgy" looking plane.

The Wildcat ws outclassed by the zero but it was more rugged and in the hands of a good pilot it held it's own early in the war.

Group trip?

The entire 6th grade went camping. She has been looking forward to it since she was in Kindergarten. I think she actually grew--she sure looks older than she did Monday. I'm so gald she's walking again and was able to go, but it was hard on me.

The PASSING OF A HOMETOWN HERO

NUNN, DANIEL WEBSTER... our friend.

We just called him Danny... most people in Sacramento knew who you were talking about when you did. He was affectionately known as Webster by his childhood friends and family but the stature and character of the man never allowed me to take that liberty.  Danny won't be able to join us with the kids in their classrooms now, but he'll be smiling down from his place at the right hand of God. His lifetime of service to country, community, church and family will truly be missed.

Sunrise: February 14, 1924
Sunset: October 16, 2003

I first met Danny when he volunteered for a Community Watch project.  A police officer who knew him had suggested we meet and team up.  Danny was a volunteer on the civilian team made up of ham radio operators and serious neighborhood watch folks. Danny was the kind of man that could never say "no" when neighbors asked for help.

According to his obituary, Danny was born in Wheatly, Arkansas. He moved with his older sisters Bobbie Lee "Albert" and Viola "Peoples" along with his younger brother Wince Jr. to Dewey, Oklahoma.

Danny took an early interest in community involvement, and to remember him would be to recognize that he was a true patriot and man of God. He accepted Christ at a young age and found a home for his faith at Paradise Missionary Baptist Church of Sacramento.

Preceded in death by his siblings and daughter Julia Elizabeth Armstrong,  he leaves to mourn his beloved wife Juanita (Turk) of nearly fifty-five years, and their family: daughters Wanda Myr Helen Daniel, Deborah Louise Thompson (Pastor Kevin), Greta Jean Howard, Colette Michelle Landau, and two sons Stephen Llewellyn, and John Nunn. Danny leaves behind a family too numerous to mention from coast to coast.

He prided himself on maintaining a safe neighborhood for families, drug free, and clean. Working with the Sacramento Police Department in a volunteer capacity, he called on neighbors to help clean up the crime in Glen Elder. He served on the Sacramento Area Economic Opportunity Council.

Danny would brace with pride when we talked about Veterans. He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1660, he served the post in many capacities from post Commander to Sergeant at Arms.

Before retiring from the Air Force he'd become involved with the Red Cross as a Disaster Volunteer. Actively participating in some of the largest relief efforts in Northern California and making sure the daily need for blood donations were met. He also belonged to the volunteer group known as Sacramento's Search Alert and Rescue.

He was a Ham radio operator, using his family home as a MARS (Military Affiliate Radio System) radio station. An officer in the Fraternal Order of Masons David's lodge. In his later years he became a Shriner, donating his time as a greeter at "Shriners Children's Hospital of Sacramento". Liaison for the VFW and the veterans in his vicinity, getting their needs met.

There are few who will forget Danny's Salmon run, a yearly event designed to bring salmon from the hatchery to anyone that asked. Danny was well known for collecting and distribution food to the needy in neighborhoods beyond his own.

Services to be held:
10:00AM Thursday, October 23, 2003
St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church
3996 - 14th Avenue

Interment:
Sacramento Veterans Memorial Cemetery
(St. Mary's Catholic) 6700 - 21st Avenue

E-Mail PDN Webmaster with your condolences to Danny's family.
