Veterans Day 2003 - Attention Nortern California
PDN News Desk ^ | Monday, October 13, 2003 | Patriot Defenders Network

Posted on 10/13/2003 11:56:11 AM PDT by comwatch

Veterans Day is right around the corner.

It's an opportunity for us to support our troops, our country and show appreciations for our local veterans. It's another way to counter the Anti-Iraq campaign propaganda.  Would you like to help?  Are there any VetsCoR folks on the Left Coast?  We have a school project that everyone can help with too, no matter where you live.  See the end of this post for details.

Three Northern California events have been scheduled and we need help with each:

Friday evening - November 7th Veterans in School (An Evening of Living History, A Veterans Day Ice Cream Social)
http://www.patriotwatch.com/V-Day2003c.htm

Saturday - 11 a.m. November 8th: Veterans Day Parade (PDN & Friends parade entry)
http://www.patriotwatch.com/V-Day2003b.htm

Sunday November 9, 2003 Noon to 3:00 PM Support our Troops & Veterans Rally prior to Youth Symphony Concert
http://www.patriotwatch.com/V-Day2003d.htm

Each of the WebPages above have a link to e-mail a confirmation of your interest and desire to volunteer.  These are family events and everyone is welcome to pitch in.  We'd really appreciate hearing from you directly via each these specific links.  This way, we can keep you posted on only those projects you want to participate in.

Veterans in School - How you can help if you're not close enough to participate directly. If you are a veteran, share a story of your own with the children.  If you have family serving in the military, tell them why it's important that we all support them. Everyone can thank them for having this special event.  Keep in mind that there are elementary school kids.

Help us by passing this message around to other Veteran's groups.  I have introduced VetsCoR and FreeperFoxhole to a number of school teachers.  These living history lessons go a long way to inspire patriotism in our youth.  Lets see if we can rally America and give these youngsters enough to read for may weeks and months ahead.  If we can, we'll help spread it to other schools as well.

Click this link to send an email to the students.

Greetings:

Please help us spread the word on this project. I don't know how possible it is, but wouldn't it be great if we needed a wheelbarrow to carry these messages to our schools? Gosh knows, sometimes the message our kids on the Left Coast get from teachers, is less that patriotic. Remember Kory Clift who we took on for buring the flag in front of his 6th graders days after 911? This from a wannabee cop killer and uncredentialed "teacher" who hates America. If we hadn't gone public with his serious crininal history, he's still be in the classroom today.

I know there have been some great Vets in School programs out there. We like to report on them too. If you'd like to help even more with our projects for kids see our membership page: http://www.patriotwatch.com/signup.htm We're in this fight for hearts and minds together.

I read the history of that project at http://www.memorial.ecasd.k12.wi.us/Departments/SociStud/Diz/OnTheRoad/History.htm

What a terrific team work and dedicated effort. It's a crying shame more people didn't comment on or I suspect, visit the site. When you think of the billions of lives that have been changed forever or impacted by the sacrifices of a relative few, you have to wonder were our priorities are these days. It saddenes me deeply.

We must continue to reach out to today's kids with positive messages about our great nation's real heroes. They don't get enough from the "educators" in many states, California being one of the worst offenders. Better they learn why Bob wears a dress, Jane has two moms and John two dads... that's what kids are having drummed into them here. We allowed it to happen!

I know you hit the nail on the head!
You try to tell people but....
This is were leadership comes in. The 5% need to fire up and lead the other 80% who piss & Moan about everything but are followers.
Those of us who have family, Work, and other demands find it hard to find time to do this. Well you know the rest of the story.

btw what part of CA are you in?

We're based in Sacramento. That said, we've made some great FRiends in the Bay Area who have come here to support our troops and attend our rallies. We do the same when there's a project in San Francisco.

BTW, if you haven't already, consider the campaign to support the Pledge. Details at: http://www.patriotwatch.com/Save%20our%20Pledge.htm

HELP! I must be doing something terribly wrong here. A chance to teach our kids the true meaning of Veterans Day isn't getting much traction. Maybe some of you outside Northern California have some ideas or would like to help in some other way. E-mail dave@patriotwatch.com if you wish.

Here's the latest from the school district teacher whose leadership is keeping the effort alive. Maybe someone will read this that can arrange for the flatbed truck loan or a trailer.

To Dave: An idea, how about a giant Thank You card (perhaps some wood joined with a hinge) painted white with the words Thank You Vets for your Service. From All of Us. Then everyone who participates in the float making process can sign it, the kids can ride as examples of All Of Us. It would be easy I think to do this on a flat bed. Vicki

To Vicki: I like it! Securing it to the float might pose some challenges, (wind and such) but it's a cool idea and something that could have a life after the parade maybe???? Give the kids the prominent signing space and let others sign it too? I have an airless paint rig and will donate the paint and paint-job. We could seal it afterwards to preserve it from weather and such. Need to find someone who can do large lettering. Dave

To Dave: How about a donation to a local Vets Hospital afterwards. It could be displayed in a lobby or something. We could deliver it and then it would have a life after as well as the moral support it would lend after for the Vets just seeing it and knowing a new generation is aware of the legacy of service.

As for signing it, lets open the signing up to all who want to. Would you envision a two sided affair for the card? And what about the floor of the float? Maybe in one small corner a few white headstones like at Arlington with flags and then some green stuff (grass like) all over with flowers to represent the life that is still around us. Vicki

Bump. I'm working on a letter to send. My suggestion would be to alto post this on the "General Interest" Forum. Vetscor doesn't get as much exposure as the General Interest Forum.

Bless you neighbor and thanks for being the first Northerm California Freeper to offer!!! As you can see from the first post, there are three activities over three days. Each needs helpers and promotion. Pick any one that fits your availablity and travel time. The hospitality of the Bunker (PatriotWatch HQ) is wide open... we've even had people stay over when events run back to back. I cook a mean country breakfast.

SamWolf has already suggested we start a thread in the main area of FR. Perhaps we'll find a Freeper PR person to do just that and A) spread the word and B) incourage others to reach out to schools this Veterans Day.

What better tribute to the living and the dead, but to bring the living legacy of our Nation's heroes to our youngsters in school.
