(Also breakfast cookiesoatmeal/raisen/nuts )
Reminds me of my MIL’s Sweet Biscuits, recipe came across the plains with the pioneers.
Made mostly from flour, lard and water with a little sweetener if they had it, would add berries found along the way, cook in dutch ovens and store in tins so they could eat along the way for breakfast.
My kids liked them with nuts and raisins.
Love the idea of pie for breakfast.

Wow! That’s quite a tradition!
Fruit— flour lard and butter. With stevia sugar is no problem What doesn’t fit in for breakfast? Certainly healthier than donuts !
Just thought of our family heritage breakfast. It’s a dish called fermity. Whole wheat kernel soak over night. In the morning a light cream sauce is added. The crusade ancestors would add berries etc to the fermented grain they kept in side pouch and add the fruit or fresh milk (sometimes curdled).
It was one of the first foods to eat on the go. Our family has passed it down for generations
