Wow hoosiermama, I am going to tell my wife about this wonderful tradition and see if she will buy into it. Not getting my hopes up though!!
There were pies and then there were breakfast pies. Dough was flour lard and salt with Occationally added cinnamon, butter for pie tails.. (Also breakfast cookies—oatmeal/raisen/nuts )
Mom loved to bake. (She wasn’t much of a day to day cook )
