Personally I prefer Dr Rob Steele who was the late entry tea partier who gave Dingell a real run for his money in a safe district.

Why retire now ? He just needs to serve 18 more years beyond the current term and he and his father will have served 100 years in Congress (yes, it has been just over 80 years so far).
