The NRA is now openly floating, or at least allowing to be floated, its endorsement of Harry Reid, a man who voted for the Brady Gun Bill. In a New York Times puff piece on the NRA that largely gives the NRA credit for things it tried to undermine (more on that later), there is this:
A point of contention on both the left and the right is the N.R.A.s close working relationship with Mr. Reid, the Senate leader who helped get a number of pro-gun rights measures included in broader bills.
That relationship has led some gun rights supporters to lobby against the idea that the N.R.A. might endorse Mr. Reid in his tough re-election campaign this November in Nevada.
The N.R.A. is not tamping down speculation.
The NRAs lobbyist, Chris Cox, claims that Chuck Schumer would be Majority Leader were Harry Reid gone (note the NRAs implicit expectation of a Democratic Senate majority). But heres the thing Chuck Schumer could not get anti-gun legislation through the Senate and whats more, Schumer, when head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, recognized the damage to the Democrats being anti-gun was having. Many of the Democrats in the Senate the NRA loves were people supported by Chuck Schumer.
So they have gone from denying they would endorse Harry Reid to not tamping down speculation.

Down with dirty Harry!! Go, Angel, GO!!
Rebellion is brewing!!

And if Chuckie Schumer becomes the next Majority Leader without FR working for a Republican Majority, you’ll be the first one crying for the NRA’s help when all those gun bills start piling up.
Congratulations for being part of Sarah Brady’s wet dream.
You don't win at chess by ceding both your knights and all of your pawns on your first move.
Get lost, dingbat.
Down with dirty Harry!!
Rebellion is brewing!!
Reid will sell out gun owners in a New York instant and you damn well know it.
If the NRA endorses Harry Reid, the lead man in the Senate responsible for destroying our Liberty, then they can rot in hell!! And if you support Reid too, you can join them there.
THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist.
THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.
THEN THEY CAME for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.
When I emailed to complain, I got this as a response:
Thank you for contacting us.

The fact that this is even up for consideration is appalling to me. Obamacare will open the door to medical intrusion vis a vis guns. How can’t they see this? Anyone who voted for obamacare is de facto against guns.
Done with the NRA for good.
When the list of Board candidates comes out next year, I suggest that we have a discussion of the candidates here on Free Republic. I suspect that we can have some effect just by getting a number of those of us eligible to vote to hash over the issues.
For what it is worth, the NRA has not yet actually endorsed Senator Reid despite Mr. Erickson's predictions of a few weeks ago. It appears that they are considering such a move from what they have written, but a strong and vocal dissent from the members about this move might prevent it from happening.
The NRA is not a wing of the Republican party . They base their support and decisions on how candidates behave regarding the Second Amendment , as they should .
As ugly as the truth is , Dingy Harry has been the only person standing in the way of advancement of AWB-2 and other anti-gun bills for the past two years . Is he scum for the other things he does ? Yes , but we are talking about the NRA and the gun issue SOLELY here, so i’m putting it into perspective .
The NRA has to hedge their bets in case the Repubs don’t win the Senate . If Reid goes down and the Dims retain the Senate, we will have Schumer or Turbin advancing extremely radical anti-gun agendas , among other things .
From a Gun Rights perspective , I hope Angle wins , but only if the Repubs take the Senate . If we don’t win the Senate ,and/or God forbid, the House , for the sake of Gun Rights we better hope Dingy Harry stays where he is at . Another fact is that the gun issue is the only reason he may win re-election . This is definately an ugly political situation , but the NRA will continue to have my support nonetheless .
The NRA and I have a love/ hate relationship....
They are one my sh!tl!st again!
I will post their response if they do so.
They might not endorse , but instead give both candidates an “A” rating, leaving it up to Nevada gun owners . They are in a tough spot ,(NRA and Nevada gunowners), as I have laid out in the post above .If the numbers don’t stack up to a Repub takeover of the Senate, it will be a huge gamble for the NRA to back Angle over Reid .
