It’s not even about government, at this point. If you’ve got a spouse that suffers, a child that suffers, or a family and a community you neglect through your selfish behavior, you are hurting people.
One could and many did make the same arguments about alcohol and we found out that the cure was much worse than the disease. Prohibition of alcohol was no more successful than prohibition of other drugs, some of which are probably far more benign, e.g., marijuania. And, no, I do not.
What aboout those people that partake in drugs, but don’t cause any suffering?
Then that spouse made a bad decision in marrying someone of weak character. How is that the taxpayers’ problem?
And we should ban everything in existence that gives hurt to people in any way, shape, or form?
Is that what you want? For you are emotionally hurting me...
:-P
By that standard, smoking, overeating, gay sex, premarital sex, not studying, not sleeping enough, playing poker, weekend football playing, the Super Bowl, and eating candy, should all be considered proper places for govt regulations. Just admit it, you love big govt, just with proper "conservative controls" on it.
