Intersting thought. I think people feel the need tto do good because they have unresolved guilt. If they'd just face and address that, they'd be less compulsive about doing good- at least long enough to examine whether or not that they are actually doing good.

Taoism has two great words for this concept: wu wei.

Perhaps the Spanish version of “wu wei” would be

“Que Será, Será.”

I think Doris Day popularised the saying, in Spanish, back in the 50’s
