I wonder how many people here would now prefer Paul to McCain. At least on domestic policy, he certainly knows his stuff.

Ron Paul is a smart, decent, honorable representative. It was difficult to watch the not-so-smart, not-so-decent, not-so-honorable attack and demonize him during this election. Sad sad sad.

He is a loon. Absent real, massive and substantial action we would have been in a worldwide banking system collapse. That Ron Paul has no clue on this is more proof that he is unqualified to be in office. A loon, an outright loon.

I have to agree with Ron Paul on this. I was and still am vehemently opposed to the bailout bill - any of the forms in which it was presented.

Ron Paul is a good, principled, heroic man. The level of invective, hatred, and just plain stupid lies that were thrown at him from within the Republican party during the campaign were just astounding and indefensible.

He was right. We are going bankrupt, and are seemingly in a race to do it.

It is amazing to me that “conservative” Americans seem unable to divorce themselves from faith in Big Government, whether it is to “rescue” a banking system or to “protect” us from some middle eastern death cult.

Look at the efficiency and speed of our government in action after 9/11. What have they done? Well, they have ignored the fact that air passengers realize the rules have changed and now ROUTINELY attack, subdue, and disarm passengers themselves (just happened in Turkey). Instead, we now have an army of quasi literate power crazed imbeciles clogging up our travels, feeling up old women, demanding that milk a baby is drinking be “checked” to see if it contains explosives, while routinely failing every check imaginable when people try and smuggle in weapons or explosives to test their efficiency. We have spent thousands of American lives, untold billions of dollars, and wasted any good will that ever came out of deposing Sadaam in the most feckless set of military operations in Iraq conceived. -—as an aside, I just talked with a friend of mine who is a Lt. Col in special forces over there. Put simply “we won” and hooyah for that!!! Once we figured out what we actually wanted to do, our guys were, and are, the best! His analysis, though is succinct, but sad. He said, “we defeated Al Qaida and we defeated the radical Shi’ite militias. Now all the Iraqi gov’t has to do to keep the peace and enjoy prosperity is rule in a way which gives some semblance of non-sectariansism.” I asked “Will that happen?” His answer was a simple “no. They will descend into civil war within a year of us pulling out.”

We wanted to topple Afghanistan and get bin Laden. Well, we toppled it (again, TREMENDOUS job by the special forces. they ran a war on a shoestring and were phenomenal), and now are mired down in yet ANOTHER nation building exercise.

Governments are big, blundering, inefficient, wasteful, corrupt, totalitarian entities. The fact that one has a stars and stripes on it does not make it somehow different.

The distinguishing thing about the stars and stripes USED TO BE that we recognized that fact, and fought tooth and nail for liberty against the encroachment of the fed. The stuff men like Ron Paul say was the very marrow of liberty and “conservatism.”

The way he is treated in conservative circles says more about us than it does about him. It is shameful.
