A billion sounds excessive, but like you point out, look at the vast sums of money we’ve spent in comparison.
Ego? The man who had to be pressured into seeking the GOP nomination, the man who accepted defeat instead of going 3rd party, which would have kept him very prominently displayed in the national spotlight thru the election cycle, is a man driven by ego?
You don't know Ron Paul very well.
Obama & the Democrats are so fricking dangerous to the nation that I don't think Paul understands this threat just like he doesn't understand Islamic terrorism
He obviously understands the real threats to this nation better than you. Destruction of individual liberty and the economy by out-of-control gov't are the real threats to this nation, not a pissant little marxist and a bunch of 7th century death-cult members.
Paul should have endorsed McCain and asked to be his economic adviser
Yes, he should of went against everything he's believed in, advocated and practiced his entire life to endorse a big-gov't, liberal, socialist and intraventionallist like McCain.
Also, McCain wouldn't offer Paul the position of White House janitor, much less an advisory position in his administration.
I've got to say, EEE, that you are the Dick Morris of FR - your core beliefs seem to change with the day's headlines. First you support the cross-dressing fascist JulieAnnie, then the principled conservative libertarian Ron Paul, then the big-gov't socialist McCain. You sir, are all over the map concerning this election.
Who's next for you? Obammie?
ping
You got that right. Paul has been given the RINO demonizing treatment as someone supporting terrorists like Hitler. McCain would not cross his RINO backers even for the good of America.
EEE, I am surprised at your statement.
I, and a whole lot of people, did not see one effort put forth to incorporate Ron Paul into the GOP platform. They didn’t want it; and now they will sleep in the bed they made for themselves.
The majority of Americans are sick and tired of the words terrorism, and war. They are just a means to control us, and add to the power and wealth of the elite. When are people going to wake up and see this for what it is.
Ping to read later
It’s a shame really. I used to like Hannity, but he seems like a fake to me now. Even though Paul was/is 100% right on the domestic front, all Hannity could do was hit him on the war front and tell him that he “blames America”.
frankly a clock strikes 12 twice a day......
Ron Paul is a good, principled, heroic man. The level of invective, hatred, and just plain stupid lies that were thrown at him from within the Republican party during the campaign were just astounding and indefensible.
He was right. We are going bankrupt, and are seemingly in a race to do it.
It is amazing to me that “conservative” Americans seem unable to divorce themselves from faith in Big Government, whether it is to “rescue” a banking system or to “protect” us from some middle eastern death cult.
Look at the efficiency and speed of our government in action after 9/11. What have they done? Well, they have ignored the fact that air passengers realize the rules have changed and now ROUTINELY attack, subdue, and disarm passengers themselves (just happened in Turkey). Instead, we now have an army of quasi literate power crazed imbeciles clogging up our travels, feeling up old women, demanding that milk a baby is drinking be “checked” to see if it contains explosives, while routinely failing every check imaginable when people try and smuggle in weapons or explosives to test their efficiency. We have spent thousands of American lives, untold billions of dollars, and wasted any good will that ever came out of deposing Sadaam in the most feckless set of military operations in Iraq conceived. -—as an aside, I just talked with a friend of mine who is a Lt. Col in special forces over there. Put simply “we won” and hooyah for that!!! Once we figured out what we actually wanted to do, our guys were, and are, the best! His analysis, though is succinct, but sad. He said, “we defeated Al Qaida and we defeated the radical Shi’ite militias. Now all the Iraqi gov’t has to do to keep the peace and enjoy prosperity is rule in a way which gives some semblance of non-sectariansism.” I asked “Will that happen?” His answer was a simple “no. They will descend into civil war within a year of us pulling out.”
We wanted to topple Afghanistan and get bin Laden. Well, we toppled it (again, TREMENDOUS job by the special forces. they ran a war on a shoestring and were phenomenal), and now are mired down in yet ANOTHER nation building exercise.
Governments are big, blundering, inefficient, wasteful, corrupt, totalitarian entities. The fact that one has a stars and stripes on it does not make it somehow different.
The distinguishing thing about the stars and stripes USED TO BE that we recognized that fact, and fought tooth and nail for liberty against the encroachment of the fed. The stuff men like Ron Paul say was the very marrow of liberty and “conservatism.”
The way he is treated in conservative circles says more about us than it does about him. It is shameful.
I've done no such thing. I still admire Paul and appreciate him. If McCain would have chosen a RINO I'd probably be writing Paul or Hunter in. All I'm saying is that he should put politics aside and help McCain. I'm not happy with McCain but I'll vote for him since he chose Palin and the alternative is worse.
Paul has done wonders for the GOP. But the primary role of the President is Commander-In-Chief of our military. Like it or not, Paul's anti-war stand killed him with the base of the GOP. That's why he didn't get anywhere.
Dude, I supported Paul right until he dropped out of the race. My support for McCain is reluctant but out of necessity. I'm familiar with everything he has espoused.
