Help needed to fight smoking bans

Posted on 01/19/2005 2:24:31 PM PST by Da Bilge Troll

My local city government (St. Peters, MO) is making noises about banning smoking from bars. Does anyone have or know of anyone or group who has sucessfully stopped such a law and might be able to provide help and advice?

Nanny-Staters make me shake my head. ALL POWER TO THE GUVMENT! Yeeeeahhhhhhhhh!""

I agree!! I think all of these smoking bans stick. It's nothing but government control of private business. From what I've heard, Hitler did the same thing. Hitler even banned smoking from the military.

I agree that private industries should have their basic rights protected, but here is where personal stories get in the way.

We lived in SC where smoking was everywhere, but unfortunately our son has really really really really bad asthma. We went to many "kid" places where the parents were all hanging out smoking and our choices were leave or have an asthma attack and end up in the Emergency Room.

Even in OUTDOOR places, like local parks, there were so many smokers we had to leave.

So, I guess I will say that I believe in corporate rights, except when it ACTUALLY causes health issues - not imaginary health issues, but real ones.

Now, bars? Who would take a kid to a bar, so smoke away!!!!

Its a great choice. It's called voting with your feet or your wallet. And then followup with a call our a letter to the business. find somewhere else to go.

Outdoor places are public, and not private. If your local politicians enact laws that prohibit smoking in actual public places, then I say the process is working. Not that I agree with the law, but that's how it works. Again if you don't like the law vote for different politicians.

Lastly, private is private. If you don't like it, go somewhere else.

Consider yourself lucky. My town eliminated smoking within the city limits. Second hand smoke from those smokers standing outside the building could cause death donchaknow. Polution from vehicles is a lot more dangerous to my health but I don't think banning cars within the city limits is going to happen soon. Boozed up drivers can be very dangerous also but I don't think the Nazis that came up with this idea will shut down there local watering holes. Afterall, those afteroon martinis are a must. I don't smoke but the action by these brown shirts really upsets me.
