Thanks for the mini history lesson - I love when you do that!

That is why I always pray for those who have fallen away to come back--somebody must have done it for me at one time! Thank you for sharing your story. It is far more common than you imagine.
If you have cable at home, check with your cable company to see whether or not they supply EWTN. If so, then turn your dial to that station on Monday night @8pm and watch The Journey Home. Or, you can visit their home page and listen to these conversion stories right over the internet. It will immensely strengthen your faith.
The Journey Home
or you can read some of these stories at Marcus Grodi's web site.

I hope you are not being ironic. Can't help it. I was a teacher too long.

Scripture coupled with personal interpretation is poison. (I see a new Freeper RC tag line in there)
Now it makes sense. I was fed poison from all those personal priestly homilies growing up?
God's word is pure and simple and sharper than any 2-edged sword. It cut(s) my heart wide open (without any magisterium's assistance) to see what a lost, vile, religious sinner I was.
To: Ex-Wretch
All well and good, But what happens when you open your mouth and share your interpretations with others? Are yours any better than the false teachings you have heard?

We do not seek to dominate or impose. As Pope John Paul stated, The Church proposes. She imposes nothing.*snort*
Since when?
Every country that springs from a majority Catholic culture is a socialist cesspool with deep class divisions and a history of dogma enforced as civil law; in the US, those states which are most heavily Catholic have tended toward that as well.

I'm trying hard to think of the perfect Protestant or even Orthodox country. Your description fits just about everywhere (few minor tweaks here and there) in the world.
To: Chancellor Palpatine
This is an old myth. These "Catholic" countries often had revolutions that became anti-clerical in nature, e.g. France and Italy. What about those "socialist cesspools" called Germany and England? Those are "Protestant" countries.

God's word is pure and simple and sharper than any 2-edged sword. It cut(s) my heart wide open (without any magisterium's assistance) to see what a lost, vile, religious sinner I was. I'd be hard pressed to find a Christian who doesn't say the same thing as you just did. Are you a devout Calvinist or a devout Arminian? Or maybe a devout Bible Believing Fundamentalist or maybe a devout Orthodox or a devout Catholic or a devout Presbyterian or devout Universalist or a devout Anglican or Lutheran... and I could go on and on.

But what happens when you open your mouth and share your interpretations with others? Are yours any better than the false teachings you have heard? The Holy Ghost is a quickening spirit to those who are alive in Christ. His sheep hear His voice and follow Him. They will not hearken to the voice of a stranger.
John 16:13,14
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

How's about that real Catholic country Sweden? ;-)
To: american colleen
Except the part in the parantheses with devout Catholics.

Like where in the USA? I guess you have never heard of the Comstock Laws.
As for the socialist countries, you may or may not be aware that they have been in rebellion against Catholic teaching for two hundred years.

I know :-)
But you know my point... no matter how one worships God, they are following some sort of tradition even if it is their own personal tradition. Including the recent developments with the new Anglican Bishop. The men who voted for him all said that the Holy Spirit was with them. The men who voted against him all said that the Holy Spirit was with them. Everyone in that room was convinced that they had it right.

Haiti, Central America, most of South America, and the Phillipines are all such rousing success stories compared to the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa and Namibia, LOL.

...and evidently still are. Typical mud slinging. Get saved, delivered, sanctified, filled with the Holy Ghost and walk in newness of life. You'll understand what it is like for sin to become exceedingly sinful and to have a perfect hate for it.
To: Chancellor Palpatine
Again, either dictatorships or socialist governments, neither of which have ANYTHING to do with Catholicism.

The Holy Spirit is what Mr. Robinson claims as his guide. Listen carefully to his argument. He claims that God is working through him.

My position is that dictatorships and/or socialist governments with a tiny class of oligarchs and a broad class of oppressed peasants is the natural social order in any society in which devout Roman Catholicism is the predominant religious view. My further position is that the authoritarian mindset inculcated in the RC faithful leads them to seek civil sanction for deviation from Roman dogma (especially in those who aren't Catholic), and that the only way the peasantry reverses that social order is by the adoption of anticlerical measures after a seizure of power.
