That is why it is called the perseverence of the saints..Gods grace and the indwelling Holy Spirit PRESEVE the elect.

I don't see the connection between persevere and preserve. Perhaps you could clarify.

persevere v to persist in spite of difficulties.

preserve v to process food (as by canning or pickling) to prevent spoilage.

Then I looked, and lo, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. [2] And I heard a voice from heaven like the sound of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder; the voice I heard was like the sound of harpers playing on their harps, [3] and they sing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been redeemed from the earth. [4] It is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are chaste; it is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes; these have been redeemed from mankind as first fruits for God and the Lamb, [5] and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are spotless.

Is being chaste and honest a work?

That is funny because I once asked the same question:>)

God's Grace preserves us to allow us to persevere. Scripture speaks to us being sealed

Eph 1:13 In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Preserved (I have to seal those jars.....or they will not last the winter..they will be spoiled. The Holy Spirit seals us to allow us to last through our season here)

By virture of that preservation they can by Gods grace overcome

Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony: and they loved not their lives unto the death.(perseverence)

Hey Mom:), I've been watching for you to show up today. A bit late aren't you? :)

Anyway, on another thread someone said something about Psalm 91, enough to get me curious to read it.

Verses 9-10 made me thing of you. Can you explain them from a Calvinist viewpoint. They sound very much "freewill" too me.

I am not trying to put you on the spot just curious as to your take.

Becky

Psalm 91

Safety of Abiding in the Presence of God
1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust."

3Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler[1]
And from the perilous pestilence.
4He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
5You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
6Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

7A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
8Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.

9Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
10No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
11For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
12In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
13You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

14"Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
15He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
16With long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation."

Amen!!!

Amen, and, AMEN,.....to God's 'Free-Grace'...!!!

(If it ain't 'free' to the ungodly sinner,....it ain't God's Grace!)

(Religion apart from 'Free-Grace' is of the FLESH!)

(The Devil 'runs' ALL of the Religious 'Kingdoms' of the 'world'!)

(The Devil 'is' the god of this present rebellious 'Fallen-earth-age' to his minions of Jesus hating sinners!)

(Those 'religous-kingdoms' are exactly the 'Kingdoms/Nations' the Devil 'offered' to Jesus as a 'Pride-Bribe'!)

Maranatha!

This is a great article and post!

"Is being chaste and honest a work? "

I think we have to go beyond just the "doing" in order to make sense of trying to define a "works-based" salvation theology.

If we limit it to doing something, then being honest, chaste, choosing to believe, etc… are all things that we do, and, if we limit the definition of works to things we do, perform, then yes, they are all works.
