"I do think (speculating here) that there is a diabolical element."
I agree. When I saw the web pages on Goodbye Good men and started reading that(and recognizing the respected names supportive of this book) I could no longer consider the info on the rcf.org site just far out, can't possibly be that bad and so on. Then I had some references mentioned there confirmed by trusted friends who were close to Father Hardin. Clearly to me, diabolical is the only way to describe the orchestrated undertow of this crisis. Shortly before this broke, back in February, the Holy Father spoke about evil being at its most dangerous when it is unrecognized and unseen...and he has been speaking for many months of a new spring.

Agreed a kid is one thing, an adult something else..especially a long term relationship...

I don't know what to think of some of the most sensationalist allegations out there. I
DO know personally of some rather disturbing situations, but some things are hard to prove. Someone swears such and such actually happened involving X,Y, or Z persons, but when it gets to something about someone deliberately doing something for specifically anti-Catholic reasons or motivations, that can be hard to prove. That doesn't mean such things don't happen.
Unfortunately, there are also mentally unbalanced people who allege really wild fantasies. Sorting out the real from the schizo-affectively imagined fantasy can get tricky. If someone came forward, say, with allegations like the ones about Shanley and claimed that a priest you know well, like, and think is fine, did them, you tend not to believe that kind of thing. That it is possible for some individuals to be so compartmentalized that they can do outrageous things and then resume a routine, mundane, appearance of normality, makes it all the more confusing.
I will guess that part of the whole sex abuse problem has something to do with the fact that very wholesome, innocent, orthodox people have trouble realizing that such outrageous and profane conduct does take place. Evil can be bizarre.

LOL! Christ is the only Revelation we need and desire. He is the Mediator and Fullness of All Revelation.

I have to agree that if it is an article, clearly when it is shown as news, it should be allowed to stay there. I do see the point that this particular article is filled with innuendo. Although, when one considers all the allegations coming out, that is what they all they are.
The settlements, over the years, do give some credence to the allegations. I understand that sometimes the Church may have settled, just to prevent what is happening in the news now. But, we live in an age where there cannot be secrets of this nature.
The fact that the lawsuits--civil in nature, are coming into play, one must realize that there could be false accusations. Deep pockets, you know. To me, the position of the Church should be that when there are accusations, the accuser should take the case to the DA, and the DA could decide whether it should be filed, just lie any other molestation case. It is more reasonable inasmuch the burden of proof is much greater.

I do hope you are correct about the Bishop, but on an earlier thread, someone swore the same about Cardinal Law.

I'm undergoing chemo just now, and am scheduled for surgery to remove a tumor that's around my lower spine. I thought I was doing something good for the Church and my fellow FReepers but apparently a large number of folks including Jim disagree. So I'm going for now. Please say a prayer for me. God blessI have read most of your posts, and you are helpful to the Church, but you are right that you do not need hatemail right now. You need to concentrate on your health. I am so sorry to hear about your battle with cancer, and I shall include you in my prayers.

While molestation as a child is devasting; the 20-year old has got to know better.

While molestation as a child is devasting; the 20-year old has got to know better.AND be a willing participant. HE should be sued IMHO for his failure to warn...how's that for turning the tables?

I spoke with this good Bishop a few times,he told me he was one of our listeners for the radio program at that time, how humble for him to say that.He was the real deal and he has my vote. The last I heard he went to God a few years ago.I work with many priests and many people,it is easy for someone to say something about another person and have it written down, because it is on paper does not mean that it is true.I will do some reseach on this Father Adamo who's statement was not entered into evidence and get back to you on him.

Salvatore J. Adamo Monsignor Salvatore J. Adamo, 81, columnist for the Philadelphia Daily News for 30 years, died Jan. 20, 2001. Adamo wrote often controversial columns for area daily newspapers. His column appeared in the Daily News for 30 years, ending with his retirement in 1999, and in the Atlantic City Press for about 25 years. "Monsignor Adamo was a terrific person and a very big part of the Daily News for a long time," said Zack Stalberg, editor of the Daily News. Adamo served as executive editor for the Catholic Star Herald until he was relieved of his duties in a censorship controversy with the bishop. One series that led to his dismissal was on censorship of the Catholic press. The Catholic Press Association named the series "the best newspaper campaign in the public interest" in 1977, just after he was fired.

Do not tell me that another Revelation is coming ...one is all I can handle:>))hey - I resemble that comment ;)

and while you read those Brian, consider my wife was derided on two occasions, Arminianism was called "satanic" and theological "crack cocaine" and the taking of the Catholic communion was referred to as "gnawing on the kidney and sucking on the carotid artery".
Like I said before - If anyone slanders my dear wife, or blasphemes the Body of Jesus Christ, I WILL play "whackamole" with the abuse button. Will I have a potty mouth in the process - perhaps - and while not to excuse, my upbringing plays a large part. I will add, the hand of God has worked in my life in the past six years as I was completely mired in sin beforehand. He has delivered me from alcohol, pills and severe depression. Today - we pray for my temper and speech. Amen Jesus. So yes Brian, by all means go through the posts woody, ma and myself have shared over the past several days. I will direct you here

The Truth is there for all to see, Rev. Don't worry. I know the continual abuse and violence of tongue can wear down the most charitable and patient saint.
