When I was a Catholic, they taught us the Our Father and the Hail Mary - I never heard a prayer that mentioned Jesus by name until much later - after I left the Church, I learned they have something like 7 prayers that are supposed to be specifically to Jesus, but only 4 seem to mention Him by name. Maybe the Church needs to be educated to educate members - and the clergy.

The low view of Christ has been pretty standard in most liberal Presbyterian seminaries for roughly a century—but that view has been sotto voce.

The liberal Presbyterian seminaries, like all the liberal protestant seminaries, have taken the low view of Christ for roughly a century.

The presbyterians do have their conservative side in the PCA and a couple smaller denominations. Similarly the liberal denominations do have their smaller conservative side.

The PCUSA is rapidly losing membership. At its current rate of membership loss—there will be none left in the PCUSA in a decade or two.

In 1970 the senior pastor of Sierra Madre [CA] Congregational Church decided he was an atheist, and announced it. Here is what God did in response:

1. Motivated the congregation to leave. Many of them went around the corner and founded Bethany Church, which has saved and sheltered many in the decades since.

2. Motivated the small remnant to fire the atheist. They replaced him with Lake Avenue Congregational’s youth pastor, Dick Anderson, who preached to sixteen people in that large sanctuary on his first Sunday and spent the next forty years honoring God and preaching His Word to three packed services.

3. Motivated Pastor Anderson to hire astrophysicist Dr. Hugh Ross as the Evangelism Minister. His efforts helped to pack them in.

4. Motivated Hugh, with Dick’s encouragement, to found Reasons to Believe and write two dozen books; tens of thousands worldwide have come to the Lord as a direct result.

Denying that Jesus is the Son of God means that he isn’t a Christian no matter what else he might say. But denying that Jesus was born of Mary and Joseph by way of a virgin birth is another matter entirely as the first Bible made no mention of them and merely stated that Jesus descended from Heaven. Pre-Nicene Christianity also didn’t tack on the Hebrew Bible at the front of it. When I first read the Bible it was hard to reconcile the tribal God of the Old Testament with the teachings of Christ.
