The Church isn’t as predictable as the American Political scene.
I would prefer African or Asian or possibly Eastern European, but there are undoubtedly lemons in all these regions, and there are gems from elsewhere. 135 individuals are in the end 135 individuals.
Fortunately, my opinions don’t need to be spot on because no one who matters in this instance is going to be consulting me. If any Cardinal-electors are Freeping during the conclave, they are in trouble.
Hopefully this time they will actually vote for a Catholic to be Pope...
That’s exciting, almost as much as watching paint dry.
I believe that traditionally the ballots burned by themselves produced one of the colours (I’m guessing white), and by adding damp straw the other colour is produced.
A few conclaves bad there was confusion, and I believe that there are now specially designed packets burned along with the ballots to ensure that the desired colour is produced.
In that case, we may see pink smoke. :)
😆 Stop!
Thank you :)
I am predicting a gay rainbow of colors. White light does contain all colors of the rainbow.
Pope Benedict inserted a couple of days of prayer and fasting in the event that the process goes multiple days. The first one will be on Saturday, if the first nine votes aren’t conclusive
(see item 75 in the link-—which is B16’s amendments to the process)
https://www.vatican.va/content/benedict-xvi/en/motu_proprio/documents/hf_ben-xvi_motu-proprio_20130222_normas-nonnullas.html
I couldn’t agree more.
Yep-—and it looks like there is both a fair bit of discretion as to whether the rest days are full days or partial day-—and the first three of them are followed by seven rounds of voting (maximum of four per day), if necessary.
The real innovation of B16 hits at round 31——only the top two vote getters from round 30 can receive votes from there on out (no provision covering a tie for second place), the ones being voted for are excluded from voting, and they keep voting until somebody gets two thirds.
Much better than JPIIs a simple majority elects after reaching that point.
That was my first thought.
Pink smoke
LOL
Hey, man, we got a new pope!
Pope? Pope’s not here.
I wonder how they’d handle the second-place tie situation? See if one wanted to drop out; if not, then draw lots? Or keep all three?
LOL!
My bet would be keep all three. While they could simply keep all three for the next round and see if that narrows it, even that requires agreement and given the long history of compromise candidates, third place on the thirty-first ballot might be stronger than second place.
“ If the smoke emerges, sees its shadow and returns down the pipe we get two more weeks of lent.”
You never know how pagan this catholic group is until they CHOOSE who will speak for god in these cultish rituals.
The black klan robes seem a stretch too far, but never fear. They will come up with another absurdity given time…
