Full disclosure: My church is in the Florida Conference, and we have voted to disaffiliate FRom the UMC.

We are joined, at last count, by 115 other Florida conservative United Methodist Churches.

For us, this is an exciting and challenging move!

Our Methodist Church is leaving as well. Can’t be soon enough. Thank God we have a Bible believing and preaching minister who is leaving with us.

Our UMC is in a conservative Conference and we are like “whatever”.

The key in many of these congregations and denominations is “Who owns the church real estate?

Many of them were set up that the denomination hierarchy owns it, not the local congregation that paid for it.

The General Conference has not been held for 2 cycles to prevent churches leaving the denomination in a planned, legal manner. God bless the leadership of every church that leaves the UMC. It has become a rabid demonic force bring havoc to the faithful.

A FRiend once told me that church politics are the dirtiest of all politics. I now believe him!

I’ll keep you appraised of our progress with the Florida Conference. Our lawyers are confident we’ll be able to leave with minimal cost.

UMC has a “Trust Clause” which asserts that the Conference owns all church property.

We are contesting that clause, and the lead church in our 116 church lawsuit was formed (and the church paid for by its members!) long before there was a UMC.
