Cardinal Dolan has no intestinal fortitude. Pray for him. Just like the Catholic Church has an abuse crisis and will not face what has to be done, Cardinal Dolan will not do what has to be done. The Church allows the queer priests to remain in the ministry and Cardinal Dolan allows Governor Cuomo to remain in the Church. Both are remiss!

It’s time for the bishops to come up with a formal process to deal with this problem, whether based on Canon 1398 or a new canon law that directly touches on the issue. That process should be just, provide opportunities for mercy and conversion, but make it clear that embracing the culture of death means making a choice to leave the communion of the Catholic Church. That’s not “bullying” — it’s accountability, especially in Cuomo’s case.

Yes! Excommunication IS a matter of accountability as well as church discipline for scandalous sin in a member. Dolan weasels out by referring to its use as "weaponizing". What professed Catholics Cuomo, Pelousi, Biden, Kennedys, et al have done in their overt support and codifying of grave wrongs as "legal rights" is a scandal not just for Catholics but for all Christians. If excommunication is the only remedy to set them straight, then it HAS to be used. Anything less makes a mockery of Christian morality. They can use their exclusion from the church for political gain but they will STILL know that their actions have brought the judgment upon themselves and the eternal consequence will be earned. Let them boast that they got kicked out of their church! It obviously didn't mean much to them so it's better that they stop claiming to be Catholics at all. They should be set as an example which WAS what disfellowship also accomplished.
