Bump
And we were quietly proud of our ability to catch a dropped Host with that paten ... The idea that the little piece of what appeared to be bread was in fact Our Lord Jesus Christ was deeply ingrained in our young minds. That 'good catch' was an act of the utmost reverence.
And don’t forget about how the priest carefully scraped every particle from the paten back into the chalice for final his final consumption.
I’m too young to remember the Latin Mass, but my parish(St. Martin of Tours in Oxford circle, Philly) had a very conservative pastor, and we still received kneeling at the altar rail, on the tongue and with the altar boy using the paten.
When my family moved I was in 6th grade, and our new parish was St. Christopher’s in Somerton. I was shocked and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. People standing, the priest handing the communicants the Host who took it in their hand. Irreverent, improper music. At St. Martins, the schools religious teaching was totally orthodox. No evolution, Scripture was inerrant and proper teaching on the Sacraments and the other traditions of the Faith. At the new school, the Old Testament was all myth, sociology instead of teaching the Gospel. It caused a lot of upheaval in my life which I won’t go into. But the Church was ruined long before Francis.
If we don’t treat the Lord God with respect, the sanctity of life will never be respected.
So we’re only allowed one concern? That makes for a pretty small world.
Hah! I just realized I was replying to a six year old pos.
“post” not “pos”.
