There is not a contradiction here...
I get and understand what you are saying. I agree.
However, my point is that those arguments are necessary because, to someone who is agnostic about the bible, it looks like silly contradiction. Your post is what must be done to unwind what is going on, and it is based on an understanding of the rest of the teaching of the bible and the personality of our God.
My take on the bible is that if you know Him, it makes sense. If you don’t, it doesn’t. And I compare the bible to the words of Yogi berra regarding a particular restaurant:
“Nobody goes there any more because it is too crowded.”.
We know what he means. :)
