It has become clear that some of the most vociferous, combative people on the subject of Mary, and Jesus Christ, know absolutely nothing about Christology.

You added the name of Jesus almost as an afterthought/ You went from the subject of Mary and then switched to Christology as if understanding Mary is crucial to understanding Jesus Christ.

It's not.

The cannot talk accurately and competently about the Trinity, or the Incarnation. In other words: Christianity.

Because they disagree about the subject of Mary, they can't talk accurately and competently about the Trinity, or the Incarnation????

What a hoot.

I m sure Dan can provide stats on how many people who call themselves Christians believe in the virgin birth.

Considering the number of Catholics who think that Jesus sinned, however, I'm not so hopeful that the number is as high as you claim.

I was trying to seque into Mary's doing the reverse; if you will.

I think it its segue. But a vow of perpetual celibacy would not mean selfishness, but would be subject to will of the father is the vow was made under his headship, or the husband if married. (Num. 30) The idea that Mary was vowed perpetual celibacy is contrary to the description of marriage, and is unseen in Scripture btwn two persons of reproductive age, and is contrary to the almost consistent meaning of "till" (Mt. 1:25) and the characteristic practice of the Holy Spirit clearly mentioning exceptions to the norm among notable subjects of Scripture. But the Catholic premise is that unless forbidden then it can be used to promote Mary above that which is written of her, and which exaltation is censured. (1Co. 4:6)

Another incoherent sentence phrased as a question.

Please don't ask it again, it's not my job to interpret your sentence structure and grammar. Only one ?

My question: If the pope has the keys why does he need to consult with anyone? Shouldn't he be able to say God told me _______ and there be no question about it?

Well, he autocratically can:

882 ..."For the Roman Pontiff, by reason of his office as Vicar of Christ, and as pastor of the entire Church has full, supreme, and universal power over the whole Church, a power which he can always exercise unhindered."

Dictatus papae [1075] (a compilation of 27 statements of powers arrogated to the Pope that was included in Pope Gregory VII's register under the year 1075):

That a sentence passed by him may be retracted by no one; and that he himself, alone of all, may retract it. That he himself may be judged by no one. That no one shall dare to condemn one who appeals to the apostolic chair. http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/source/g7-dictpap.asp

"We read that the Roman Pontiff has pronounced judgments on the prelates of all the churches; we do not read that anybody has pronounced sentence on him"...The reason for which is stated thus: "there is no authority greater than that of the Apostolic See" — Leo XIII - Satis cognitum; http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/leo_xiii/encyclicals/documents/hf_l-xiii_enc_29061896_satis-cognitum_en.html

The Latin Church is not in communion with the Orthodox Church, which is unfortunate. A major purpose for holding Vatican II was a desire to reconcile the various Christian faiths with each other.

Of course they are...pay closer attention.

Well, then, that just very effectively blows out of the water the whole sacred tradition and *remembered later* things. No, as it just means that what is new was old, even if Rome later remembered it as a binding belief.

Summary:

75% of adult Americans in general said that they believe Jesus Christ was born to a virgin, Mary.

Just 15% atheists and agnostics affirmed this really happened.

69% affirmed the story of Jesus turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana as being literally true. Protestants were more likely than Catholics; blacks were more likely than whites or Hispanics; downscale individuals exceeded the likelihood of upscale people; and conservatives were more likely than liberals to see the story as literally accurate

68% believed the account of Jesus using five loaves of bread and two fish to feed five thousand men.

64% believed the story of the planet-altering flood of Noah. Half or fewer of several groups affirmed this: Catholics, atheists/agnostics, residents of the Northeast, upscale adults, the unchurched, and liberals.

6% of adults believe that the story of Eve and the Serpent. Protestants were significantly more likely than Catholics to accept this story as literal truth.

49% accepted the story of Samson as completely accurate. 72% of Born again Christians and 71% of people who attend Protestant churches that are not associated with mainline denominations and 70% African Americans affirmed this, and with females were more likely than males doing so.

Born again Christians were far more likely than non-born again adults to accept each of the six narratives as fully accurate. On average the difference between the two groups was forty percentage points!

Protestants were more likely than Catholics to accept each of the six stories as literally true. Catholics especially struggled to put their faith in the Old Testament stories. Examining a dozen Bible evaluated in this manner by The Barna Group in surveys in October and December, about half of all Catholics trusted the Old Testament stories evaluated, compared to about three-quarters believing the New Testament stories. Meanwhile, among Protestants, in relation to all six of the scriptural narratives, those who attend mainline churches were significantly less likely than those attending other Protestant congregations to say that they trusted the stories as told. - https://www.barna.org/barna-update/faith-spirituality/88-americans-express-their-views-of-the-virgin-birth-of-christ#.VpM4iFlrKHs

Those sad numbers can be attributed to the lack of preaching the Word and belief that the Word is indeed His Word.

You’d figure with all the emphasis on Mary the catholic numbers would be 100%.

Well, at least one might expect that would be higher than all others, but those who hold most strongly to Scripture as the wholly inspired accurate word of God trump (not Donald) all, as they should.
