He doesn’t get it. Watered down, non Bible believing “Christianity’ may be leftist. But it is not Christianity at its core. It’s what liberals do, they steal language and twist it to mean something different than its original meaning. They do it with the Bible like they do it with The U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
He needs to read Orwell. Liberals have mastered doublespeak and throwing things down the memory hole and other Orwellian things.
>>> Certainly the European version is left
European Christianity is to the “left” BECAUSE it is state-run. You declare your affiliation to the state, the state withholds “offerings”, etc. European Christianity is, at best, sterile and at worst, heretical, for this reason.
Fiscal conservatives believe the federal government should do less.
Social liberals believe the federal government should do more.
Mutually exclusive.
“Social” means the society, not the government. As a social liberal, I believe you have the right to do anything you want that does not harm another.
The exact opposite of a fiscal conservative would be a fiscal liberal, which is what we got from the Bushes under the banner of “compassionate conservatism.” Compassionate conservatism has little connection with individual liberty, the core of social liberalism.
Exactly. Can’t serve 2 masters. Limited Government operating under strictly enumerated constitutional powers or a PC imbued welfare state that “cares”. Whenever someone spouts that fiscally conservative BS I always just ask them “so then you really aren’t conservative?”. Kind of like everybody “being” Irish on St. Patrick’s day.
Which flies in the face of fiscal conservatism.
What you’re describing is libertarianism. Libertarians believe in do what you want, but you have to deal with thee consequences. Social liberals believe in doing what you want, and then having a government program to clean up after you, and forcing others to follow your type of tolerance.
BTW, you’d probably consider me a social liberal in my personal life. But I recognize that social issues have no place in politics. Otherwise, one central body becomes the arbitrator of what is and is not acceptable.
Wedding cakes, for example.
Unfortunately, politically, social liberalism means more government. Which is code for more tax dollars.
What examples can you give that SL means more government?
Less regulation of human behavior doesn’t require more government, in my mind.
The author is strangely not aware that there is a big difference between cultural Christianity, Roman Catholicism, and evangelical Christianity. Those so ignorant of Christianity should refrain from writing about it.
That’s a FAG, Baby!
With regards to politicians, social liberals are Marxists. They support government meddling in social issues, period. I’ve interviewed enough of them to glean that the term Fiscal Conservative is something they use to offer some appeal to true conservatives when they want our ballot line. When they get in office they vote like socialist Democrats. Richard Hanna (R-NY) is one such puke that routinely came asking for endorsement.
In politics, social liberals are champions of welfare, Social Security, and government healthcare, the three government institutions that are in the process of bankrupting the federal treasury.
They also are the ones that insist on funding Planned Parenthood, despite the fact that the only unique service PP provides is abortion on demand.
That’s not very fiscally conservative.
Equating Donald Trump with conservatism is specious at best.
Seriously? Pick ur issue. Affirmative Action, Abortion, Gays in the Military, Redefining Marriage, Education, Welfare State. How about instead you tell me which SL issue doesn't involve more government, class warfare or protected status.
LOL! They did this a long time ago. Maybe they plan to stop lying about it from now on.
I think you have Joseph Cotto pegged. Wonder what his freeper handle is.
“How old is he, he doesn’t look very old. Especially to be such a dismissive know-it-all. “
His lack of experience is exactly why he is a dismissive know it all.
The reason for Jebâs downfall is no secret. His support of increased immigration, amnesty for illegal aliens, expanded free trade policies, and more foreign military entanglements sent all the wrong messages to GOP voters.
Bzzt. Wrong. Jeb’s downfall is because he is a Bush and we tried that stupid shit twice already.
No mas booshes por favor i no mas clinton’s.
Okay. I’ve learned something today. Social liberalism does promote larger government. It isn’t often minds get changed on the internet, but you’re right, and you changed mine. :)
Is it slowly dawning on Conservatives that we need a new party? A name like the Conservative Party based on the principles of the Constitution would be a start. If we already had it in place, our next president would have the backing needed to rescue the country. Let’s get going.
